Just had a service on Tuesday last week, and afterwards had to follow up with the foreman as a couple of niggles weren't fixed during the service. I mentioned to him I felt the car was a lot punchier since the service, and was really quite surprised as it was just a standard 15K oil swap service. He mentioned that there was probably an update done to the ECU- they come in every now and then from Ford and they just plug in the unit and bang it's done.

Wouldn't this practice screw up the powerchip upgrade? or at least let the dealer know that something was not as it seems in the ECU?

The foreman couldn't tell me what sort of changes were made but I swear it did something good... :innocent:

Mmmm, to my mind it probably would screw-up the mods done using a piggyback chip, depending on the type of update to the original computer of course.

If the update results in an improvement to the engines performance, then Ford probably programed some of those same changes that a piggyback chip does (but probably no where near as well).

Either it works like that, or else the piggyback chip completely over-rules all the emgine management functions of the original computer. And I really think that is unlikely.

Then again....I'm just thinking out loud....maybe one of the aftermarket chip developers/installers can comment.

I was supposed to have the car on the dyno 10 days ago as it was booked in for the powerchip guys to look at. I've had a couple of minor problems like stalling when coming to idle sometimes and it was missing a bit at mid revs.

Unfortunately the after sales service and communication within the Powerchip group seems to be non existant and the guy that came to Sydney came with no spare parts and didn't organise the dyno time (I did offer to pay for this myself in an effort to sort out the problems). He just turned down the boost a lb and told me to drive it for a week and see what happens. Not a very scientific approach in my opinion.

So, in short, I'm stoked at the extra performance from the chip, but I'm considering de-installing it and going to another supplier who has a Sydney based service facility as these Melbourne based guys don't seem to have the facilities in Sydney to look after their customers at all.

I don't think I could go back to driving the car in standard spec now! The extra power is awesome.

I have e-mailed Powerchip (last Friday) with no reply yet, but I will keep you posted. And I will publish the dyno info if I get that far with this chip.
