fordxr6turbo.com members,

Some of you may have heard of our company before - Powerchip Australia - but for those who haven't - we are Australia's leading performance chip company, opening our doors in 1991, and selling automotive performance chips ever since.

The XR6 Turbo presents a fantastic new opurtunity for a Powerchip upgrade, in the form of a re-mapping of the car's fueling and timing curves, and also a mild boost upgrade, which should produce very good power and torque gains, as well as improvements in driveability and throttle response. However, to develop such an upgrade, we are in need of a 'donor' or 'development' car.

We are looking for an owner of a XR6 Turbo who is located in Melbourne, and is willing to let us use his car for the purposes of developing a chip for it. The development process includes analysis of the ECU (and the programs contained inside), modification of these programs, and some time spent driving the car to achieve the best possible gains. Anyone who is generous enough to lend us their car for the day would be entitled to the completed upgrade for free (once it is released to the public), as well as a loan car for the day.

We are looking at doing development on the XR6 Turbo sometime next week (beginning 20th January), and would require the car the whole day. If anyone is interested, please send off an email to ryan@powerchipgroup.com with your contact details, and we will get back to you as promptly as possible.

Also as a point to note, the Powerchip for the XR6 Turbo will be completely physically and electronically undetectable, so warranty issues are not a problem. If anyone has any other questions regarding the possibility of lending us your car, please direct them to the email address above.

Kind Regards,

Mathew Kilham

Looks like the race is on to see who cracks the XR6T first. Good luck with your venture.

I'm more interested to see what the updated fuel, ignition and boost maps looks like on the dyno once everyone has come out with their chip/upgrade. After talking to a friend at Garrett, I suspect there is more than electronic stops to increased power.

l am talking with powerchip at the moment about using my car as the guinea pig.

What do you all reckon of this?

l have no experience with chipping cars. Anybody have past experiences they can share, improvments noticed, warranty issues, experience with Powerchip themselves etc. My main concern is maintaining warranty, any thoughts on this?

It shouldnt really affect warranty... they are a plug in device... if you take it out before you take it to ford - they will not know!!

Make sure you get before and after dyno print outs from an independant source.

Mondie,

Suggest you check the fine print on the warranty issue. I chipped my VL Turbo and Expensive Daewoo freaked out when they found out during a service. They told me unless I remove the chip the warranty is void for the running gear. I do not know how they work these days but are they easily removed and put back in?

Yeah, getting caught out is my concern.

If they change the boost electronically (+2 psi) and the fuel mapping, l wonder if Ford could have some other kind of error checking built into the ECU brain that could check these figures and verify they are what they should be. If not, when Ford plug into the computer at your next service, a little electronic dobber could wave the flag and do you in.

Possible do you think?

And what about the manual box, is it gonna handle perhaps another 30-40kw, maybe even more?
