Hey all

Im looking at investing in rear sensors for my upcoming XR6T Ute, from my understanding Ford dont do them from factory for the utes (only sedan's that built into the dash display), so my local dealer is offering me a aftermarket version they fit on there utes and others like disabled cars etc.

He said it has a half moon led dash display, just wondering before I splash out my hard earned if anyone has had this fitted from ford and if anyone has a pic of what it looks like please post it up.

The cost was $450 including painting of the sensors and fitting with 2 year warranty, while it sounds a lot it is still a stack load cheaper than the $800 repair for a new tail gate that I touched that was un see-able in a parking lot in my old ute.

I looked into it and was offered the same kinda set up. The whole extra dash unit was what turned me off, kinda sounded like an ebay special. Im just gonna save some pennys and get a camera set up through ASL, one of the site sponsors.

Im looking at getting the camera set up on my ute before I back in to one of those pesky little short bollards. I thought when I was searching through ASL sub forum that they were about $450.00 a while back ??

Rancid- Yeah the whole dash LED is no so impressive, I seen images of how the sedan version uses the main screen display to show how much room you have looks mint(well I think that's how it works judging from images LOL)

The dealer said it sits between the dash and the A pillar and does not obstruct view, wouldnt mind if they put it under the center console in were the lighter and aux is out the way hidden as its mostly the auto beep you listen for, im sure they could mount it anywhere since its after market fitted at the ford dealership before delivery.

tig- those little things are 100% not see-able in the ute, and the slightest touch and the rear bends like a paper cut :(

you think $450 is ok price? seen the units for as low as 100 not sure how much someone who charge to fit it? and not sure how good the quality is compared to what Ford is using? plus Ford paint it to match your car which is super neat.

I have that unit and this is exactly what I had them do, mounted in teh spot you mentioned. It IS a little tacky and very 'ebay special' like, however having used it for 10 months or so, I can say it's been reliable and extremely accurate in the distances to impact that gets displayed. Very practical.

For the money though I'd go with something else. Are you in Sydney? I just had sensors installed on a work car and for the same money you can get sensors which are barely visible and come wiht a audible chime and spoken distance to impact warnings. Name of the store escapes me right now however they are in Ryde. PM if this info is relevant and I'll get you more info.

I had reverse sensors put on my BA ute. They were just the audible ones. but they were more than enough. They were colour coded and installed for around $350. He is based around Merrylands area. Shoot me a message if you want his info. Here's a sample of the job he did on mine.
