im gonna go out on a limb here and say mine was pretty tired at 110k kms. engine oil was black as the night after 7500 kms, turbo bearings were loud, all suspension bushes were shot, diff was tired, interior was starting on that slippery slope to ef falcon-ness., marks on the paint were building up.

that's just mine; I always drove it hard but treated it good.

that's my 2c anyways.

lol.. my opinion is it depends on how the car has been looked after/serviced etc.

My BA mk1 has 156xxx but has all its log books and service history up to date.. this to me ensured me that atleast the car has been looked after and being an older persons car they *in theory* shouldnt have flogged the ass off it.

At the end of the day it works out I paid $15750 for a XR6T with premium sound a sun roof.. tinted windows has not been modded at all and it sh*ts all over my EF Futura that I've had for the past 8yrs and have ran into the ground but the engine in it is still going strong at 306xxxkms .. although it leaks oil like a siv! lol I plan on keeping the XR stock (as much as I'd love to mod.. but with a young family and not a 100k a year income that's a bit hard!) But yeah.. Moral is.. Get out there and drive the car and enjoy it.

These cars are tough.. I got my 02 T with 60k on the clock and it's now done double that. The diff, transmission and particularly the engine feel as tight as they did when I first test drove it over two years ago.

Had mine serviced today (because unfortunately I have to sell it) and even though it has been a dream car, I wanted to make sure it is spot on before anyone buys it from me. The Ford dealer said it was (in his words)" as good a BA Mk2 as he has seen through here". The only thing I have needed fixed have been the brakes and a manifold gasket. Apart from that, it has been sensational. It has 114ks on the clock (majority on the freeway) and has been serviced and looked after like a baby. It is a BA2 Sep 2005, still has factory warranty, leather, premium sound, and absolutely stock standard...never been touched. What sort of money do these go for privately guys??

First up sorry if Ive hi-jacked this thread. But I have similar questions regarding a BA.

I have been hanging out to buy a T Ute for the past 2 years. Now I have the chance to buy a 11/03 4Spd Ute with 83XXX kms for good money.

So its been owned by 2 mid 30yr olds. First owner installed a stage 3 APS system, hard tuarno and debadged, 2nd owner has re-flash tuned it added external fuel pump, injectors reaco seats, full adj coil overs up front lower springs out back, apparently the box has been stiffened and a cooler added and about 5k ago a new garret was installed.

I will be getting a copy of all recipes this week so I can supply finer details if need be.

I took the ute for a drive today and all I can is whoa 'I though my old mans GT was quick from the line'. He showed me a dyno print out from the shop that did the reflash and it is making 321rwkw.

My main concern is about all the bad talk about the 4spd box. But most of this is in old threads that ive read. I am hoping the work done on the box is only recent and should solve some off the old problems. what are your thoughts? Will get full work print out with the receipts.

He also said the diff will need to be balanced before its sold. Whats involved with this and does it cost much?

Any thing else I should check?

Thanks for the time.

I have no regrets about getting a BA auto....but I made sure I got a stocker with service history, which was one lady owner highway k's car btw if that helps.

I did have concerns after reading through these forums about potential probs and that I wasn't getting a BF etc etc...but so far none of these issues exist in my example...except my cup holder wont shut!!

I was almost terrified about getting a T...but at the end of the day this is the most satisfying car I've ever owned.

With just on 90 k it cost me 17k with 12 months reg. I bought it as traded and un-detailed so it was also very clean and drives tight. (I've driven many BA's and had a BFII from new as work vehicles and know how these cars should feel from zero to at least 160k on the clock)

So take your time and you will find a healthy one at the right price and kays...

My BA is about to click over 150k this week, it has been tuned by Nizpro to 300rwkw+ for 2 years, Turbo inspected at every service last check just last week, and all is fine, bearings are silky smooth. as good as the day I bought it bog stock std at 80k kms.

The key, is frequent oil changes, kept to 7,500 kms, with a quality synthetic 10w40, suitable for turbocharged cars (higher temperature's) Nulon 10w40,mobil1 etc...

and Change the inline turbo supply filter screen every 3rd oil change.

I have noticed a few little niggly rattles in the suspension in the last year, perhaps needing some bushes replaced etc.

I haven't had any transmission related problems at this power level, I did service the box before upping the power levels as a preventitive measure, putting in the cryo treated planetary gears and high energy bands/ serrated clutchpack.

the BTR 4speed is an underrated box in my opinion, It shifts faster than the ZF, quicker down the strip, can be driven hard manually and holds gears to redline, the torquey nature of the Turbo Inline 6 perfectly exploits the longer ratio's of the 4speed.

Sure it may be less refined than the ZF 6 speed, doesnt have the adaptive programming etc. but it does an admirable job handling 312RWKW and 800nm (nearly double its torque rating). Its all in the tune, a bad tune, with little regard to the shifting of the auto, can see a box damaged with just 250rwkw.
