I'm about to get a tune but am wondering whether to buy a Cal 3 for $795 or buy a 2nd hand Cal 1 which has plenty of lifes left in it and has been returned back to stock for $300. Is it worth justifying the extra expense of $500 for Cal 3 when I presume all tuners can still perform the same results with a Cal 1?

I got a xcal3 and think its great, I havn't used a xcal1 though so I can't really compare. I have heard that the xcal3 is faster, it also has data logging builtin to it.

sorry to hi-jack the thread.. but im in the same boat but earlier this year (or so) I heard that they were phasing out the series 1 of the flash tuners. Is that right or am I mis-informed?

That was the plan until it backfired on them resulting in a massive uproar from customers. So they changed their mind. So...

XCal1 is still usable providing your tuner is a registered SCT tuner with Herrod's.

There's no repairs on XCal1's though, so if it breaks then you'll have to upgrade. But I don't think I've ever heard of one stuffing up.

The XCal3's are poor quality. The first one I got had a broken screen and Herrod's didn't seem interested in replacing it. The second unit has a broken clip from when it's been assembled and the screen is on an angle. They just seem cheap and nasty. IMO they're certainly not worth the price we pay for them! But I guess it's a lot cheaper than the $1395 I paid for the XCal1 when they hit the market!

Thanks Adam. I'll stick with an XCal1 box and spend the extra $$$ on mods.

Cheers.

Yes that's my plan to, if I can save $500 and go Cal 1, theres some more money saved for other mods.

Cat $400

Injectors $400

Cal 1 $300

Tune $500

Turbo housing porting $Free

Should get 300rwkw for $1,600, now that's value for money.
