Had the exact same problem. Tried everything except the obvious. Rubbed a rag around the throttle bottle buttfly and totally fixed it.

There is no visual way to see a dirty throttle body!!!!

Just clean it anyway.

Sounds like if your lights are dimming they're not getting power. You checked your alternator is charging properly? Your lights should stay the same if the car is off or running. If the alternator is dicky then that would run the batt flat and may describe the dramas your having.

Get a multi-meter or a volt meter that plugs into your ciggy lighter and see what it reads (My radar detector has volts on it) and it should read somewhere between 12.7-14.1 Volts or so.

Pretty much if its low 12V or under you may experience a problem.

My lights dim too when the car basically stalls. Not a problem cause the alternator isn't doing enough revs to generate 14V. Totally normal, I would be worried if the lights went dim when cruising at fixed speed.

Yeah true what your saying the alternator not spinning fast enough, was thinking the batt should have powered them for the short time the alt was not regulating.

I guess they dim as there is load on the elec system and there isn't enough juice in the batt to power everything.

What size and brand batt you running? Has it got enough CCA? guess that could be a problem? anyones thoughts?

Hey mackie how far out of warranty are you, I'm pretty sure that for the time your car is in for warranty work, that gets added to the end of the warranty, if that makes sense.

Sure I read something on that, but I have been known to be wrong before. :beerchug:

So besides the throttle body cleaning I would also recommend checking the wiring that leads to the cam angle sensors?? if that's what they are, ie on the drivers side, near the firewall next to the manifold heat sheild there is a wiring plug going into the head at an angle, basically the two wires here fuse together or the sheilding cracks and the wires arc. The passenger side has the same thing in a nearly symetrical location.
