I found that it was delayed when I test drove the g6et they didnt have an f6 there I could drive apperently it can all be fixed with a good tune but I really love manual only thing in the back of my mind is that if the autos are so sort out when it comes to selling time maybe we might loose out a bit or we could have a gain as there are less manuals around also the clutch upgrade can be pricey thanks for that mate.

I didnt consider the auto.. manual was my choice from day 1.

Colour was the hard thing to decide on - now the painful wait of delivery :stupid:

Guys

I'm finalising a deal on buying a new FG at the moment. The one thing I am stuck on is the damn transmission.

I've always been a believer that performance cars are manual, and every car I've ever had up until I bought my RSpec has been such.

The thing is the ZF is just so nice to drive. Rarely do you ever wish you had a manual, so I'm hoping that someone out there might have some pearl of wisdom that may help me decide what way to go.

FPV have even made it hard as there's no price difference and practically no performance difference.

mate I too had the f6 r-spec in auto great drive and tuned to 285atw the auto was outstanding.............

the fg f6 in auto(stock) is hands down a greater car in every way ..............go the auto every time.

you will forget the r-spec the first time you drive it, or any previous manuals

Nothing worse than wanting to punch it to fill that hole in traffic and waiting for a gearbox to kick down...

How often do you drive? Is it a daily? I'd probably go the Auto if that was, but then I wouldn't get an FPV for daily duties anyway. FPV's mightn't be hardcore sports car's but they are still a performance machine, and how high you hold them in that regard really is going to determine what gearbox you are going to be happy with.

The thing is, with a manual BA F6 (which I have), you have turbo lag to contend with anyway unless you were already driving hard and had everything spooled up.

My experience when test driving was that by the time the auto had changed down it had also spooled up the turbo (against the torque convertor presumably) so the lag wasn't really that much different when cruising, with the added advantage that when accelerating hard the auto can keep the boost up during gear changes (no matter how fast you change you lose some in the manual, well unless you hard flat shift maybe).

I still bought the manual, partly because it was cheaper than the BF auto I was comparing with but partly because there is more control in other ways :bangcomputer: . But the BF auto was a slightly faster car in my tests.

Meh, maybe the FG F6 is different, but the FG XR6 and Territory Turbo that I've driven both suffer from a bit of lag. Its most noticeable when idling through crawling traffic (gearbox is in what, 2nd or 3rd gear?) and then you see a hole and want to quickly switch lanes so you punch it and nothing happens while the engine winds up and gearbox is kicking down. Then its done too much, and you've lost your opportunity, so you just kinda lurch forward.. Happened more than once. Not just in the Fords, but most auto's suffer this. Never had any problems in my Rex, just leave it in 3rd and poke your way through traffic, picking off holes as you see fit. Obviously driving like this is wanker material but everyone does it if you're in a hurry.

ZF will adapt to your driving style...I.e. mine always drops back to first gear when almost stationary in either auto or perf-auto. If you drive sedately though it will perform as you describe, never drop below 2nd unless you smash the pedal, only way around that is to use manual mode.

FG F6 will have more lag over the FG XR6T due to the size of the turbo, territory turbo is still running the BF setup I believe so won't be as punchy as the FG.

well, after driving manuals since I could reach the pedals (joys of growing up on a farm, had my first car at 10), my F6 is the first auto ive ever owned. didnt think I would ever get one, as I love driving properly. but after driving the ZF im sold... driving normaly (very hard to do, it always wants to step sidways) I never notice it change gears. so smooth. its in the gear I want 90% of the time, and when u put the foot down at 70km/h it slams u back in the seat, or makes the traction control light go nuts... yes, it has a fraction of delay, but if I know im gonna need it I slide it into performance and it just sits in a lower gear. and I love that each time it changes gears its already on boost. I mean I love the thought of dipping the clutch each gear and getting the "woosh", but its worth the loss to have more power.
