winstor Member 611 Member For: 15y 10m 6d Posted 25/07/09 03:33 AM Share Posted 25/07/09 03:33 AM (edited) I just recently picked up a pair of Nitto Invo 275/35/18s for my car and am now looking for some 245/40/18s for the front but am unsure of which tyre I should choose. My options so far areFalken Azenis RT-615 - $330/eaNitto Invo - $310/eaDunlop Direza DZ101 -$300/eaToyo Proxes 4 - $300/eaKumho KU36 - $289/eaFederal 595 - $225/eaKumho KU31 - $200/eaWhich tyre there would offer the best grip/performance $$$ wise? I am not really too fussed about treadwear either btw as I would struggle to do 7500km a year. I'd prefer to pay under $300 a tyre, but those Invos at $310 are tempting so I can keep matching tyres all round.Any help, suggestions, opinions, ideas and any of that other stuff is much appreciated. If the prices are roughly the same as when I bought mine a few months back, then 18's will definitely be under the $300 mark. They are a very good tyre. Very quite with excellent grip in both dry and wet.

I.e. Pretty sure the Azenis and KU36 are around the treadwear 180 mark or lower, while others on the list are well over 200-300. The tyres you have listed are very different compared to one another, and I'll give you my opinion on a few:Falken Azenis RT-615 - $330/ea (Fantastic tyre. Nearly R spec traction performance. Can't recommend them enough. Heavy, stiff sidewalls. Even heavy braking will improve dramatically with this tyre.)Nitto Invo - $310/ea (for your requirements, I'd go with these though)Toyo Proxes 4 - $300/ea (T1R will be better for your needs)Kumho KU36 - $289/ea (I've used these on the road and circuit and they aren't bad for the price. Lighter and sidewalls not as stiff as the azenis)Federal 595 - $225/ea (If you aren't worried about wear and want something stickier, look at the RSR.Kumho KU31 - $200/ea (This tyre is good for what it is, but not in the same traction league as a Azenis)

Mixing front / rear is less than ideal from a performance standpoint. different compounds/sidewalls mean different breakaway characteristics, different grip and performance. Can anyone who runs different sizes confirm it is ok?edittyre size calc says that the fronts in 245/40/18 are 0.5% bigger than rears.
