Hi,

I would like to get some figures from 4 speed BA owners of instant fuel consumption. It would be ideal if you car is untuned, so intakes etc are fine but no tuned cars.

Can you please tell me what your instant fuel consumption (l/100km) is when cruising at 60, 80 and 100km/h on flat road? Also please state if it is a sedan or ute?

Cheers.

recent country cruising regional NSW in mid winter (cold)

BAT A4 sedan

F6 CAI no other mods, factory tune only

98 octane fuel (V-Power)

2 adults 2 kids say 230KG

lots of luggage estimate 50+KG

17" factory wheels

full size 17" alloy spare in boot

aircon always on

rear window demister on somtimes

headlights always on

radio on

2 tyres running 30PSI hot and 2 running 36PSI hot (4 service stations had no working air!)

110kph will bring average indicated consumption of <<9.5l/100km

smooth driving and allowing the car to come on boost/advance rather than using wider throttle will bring close to 9l/100km, maybe even lower

high speed very cold air flowing over the IC does wonders for the T's

if you include lots of smooth overtaking then consumption is still 9.8-9.9l/100km

Regards,

aa

been wondering this myself...

My mrs has recently bought a xr6t and FMD it loves a drink!!

Its bog stock and her average fuel is 19.0ltrs/100kms and she doesnt drive it hard either!

my 300rwkw ute (manual though) gets a reasonably spirited drive every time its out and it sits comfortably on 14.6L/100

On mine the instant consumption is a bit high and I wanted to get some comparable numbers.

For example if I got the Cruise set at 100km/h with only me in the car on flat road it sits at about 11l/100km. I can not get it below 10l no matter what the speed is. I am 90% sure it is because the cat is stuffed.

Fuel type can make a big difference to consumption.

Any 98 octane allows higher advance/boost thereby improving efficiency. This is quite a significant effect in these engines.

Also our 98 octanes, all of them AFAIK, are high (energy) density fuels.

Furthermore, Shell claim a reduction of engine friction with V-Power, say 1-3%.

Other factors in steady speed fuel consumption.

tyre type

tyre pressures

ambient temperatures

oils

Ive been watching mine closely since my last round of upgrades and retune, ive been noticing its been quite a bit better.

On the weekend, FWY driving with me and the Mrs in the car, and a couple of bags in the boot (04 BA Sedan) 105-110kph and Instant usage sitting in the mid 6's.

I find that if I get slightly above the speed I want to sit at, and slightly release the throttle, to find the least amount of throttle required to maintain that speed, the numbers improve a bit.

Cant comment on instant figure now as mine is modified but real world figures before modifying were 14.6lt/100km babying around town. Went bigger injectors and RDP TSI tune originally from 175-240rwkw and consumption droppped to 13.5lt/100km around town

highway wasn't much better standard either at around the 12.5lt/100km. I now get 10-10.5lt/100km on the highway and about 14ish/100km around town in Brisbane with my own real world figures and not the cars.

RAPID IC mods with xforce exhuast, injectors and tune from Elite Auto.

I'm happy with over 330rwkw and what I consider good fuel economy

After a bit of driving mine seems to be dropping a bit. I don't think the previous owner drove it much and not sure what fuel was ran in it.

After a tank of 98 my average has dropped to 13.6l/100km with an average speed of 46km/h. Only my second tank since I got it so still a bit heavy on the go paddle :crybaby:

I am 90% the cat is stuffed too so not bad considering. I'll have to put up with it for while until the go fast bits go on and it gets tuned.
