Ideally I want to pick up a car with no more than 140,000kms, and leather is a must. 02,03,04 I dont really care.Over the last 2 months a few cars pop up priced between 15 and 17.5K that suit my needs. Are these cars going to be reliable? how do these cars hold up with those kind of kms on them? (100-140,000)Would you suggest we steer clear of cars in this price range, are they more trouble than there worth? I do realise we a scraping the bottom of the BA barrel here!Next qeustion, I have read countless threads about the gearbox problems, obviusly we cant afford a BF at a minimum id like to have around 240 RWK, what gearbox will hold this power more comfortably, the 5 speeds break but I dont place much faith in the 4sp from what I have read.Sorry for the long winded post but having owned nothing but toyota's im really worried what sort of car we can get for our budget..Dave

With the VY/X a hell of alot of em have leather and you could get a t56 gearbox! You should pick up a vy ss for about 15,000ish The only exception to this is if you manage to fine a low K smick model that has been treated like a baby.Cheers

If you want leather NP. Definately get premium sound gives you more options on audio vis upgrades later. For choice the T is the best out of the 3 IMO. Why? Spend just over a little over a K (flash box and custom tune) and you get the car to around 240rwkw. Spend more get more, best bang for buck upgrades in comparison to other vehicles. In Melbourne there are plenty of T's going for sub 15K mark. Get one for less and do some upgrades. OK forgot to ask where are you based. Vehicles priced very different from state to state. Some people even take them across borders (pain in ass imo but may save some money) Edited 20/07/09 11:09 AM by GR8XR6

Had a read on LS1 forum even after a mafless most SS drivers are struggling to match the economy that and edited Turbo can achieveMost SS around $15,000 have well over 150,000km, $17-19K can get a car with around 100,000km but then I have to haggle to get the car within my budgetIm in NSW btw.It seems I always find a nice T with low kays etc and its always in Melbourne, I have purchased from there before and its no drama

The turbo is definitely a better car, but in this price bracket you'll probably find what you're after in the Commodore. Apart from the T56, they also have standard 18s and you're more likely to get one with niceties such as leather and/or sunroof. The XR8 sounds pretty good, but they're slower and thirstier than the other two.
