A fuel gauge (in any sort of car, much less a $60k+ car) is JUST a guide?! Is this a new advent, cos every other car I've ever driven seems to have been pretty accurate. It is a pain especially if you do a lot of long trips, and also if you're trying to avoid the weekend/holiday fuel cycle. Not be a a tightar$e or anything, but why pay more for fuel if you "know" you still have enough to last a day or two longer...

I.e. "oh, fuel gauge says empty and 0 DTE...better start looking for a servo" So I doubt they will be able to 'fix it', given that's how it was engineered in the first place. If you've already had the fuel sender replaced (which made it ridiculously over anxious) then you'll just have to put-up with it sorry. Maybe just pretend you have a 56lt tank? I usually just go by the fuel-used…and hope like f*ck that it’s right. (is usually within a few litres)

Sure most of the time car is within a 1 litre trip of a servo, but I'm a man of principles.I'm all for tolerances, believe me. But 15% is actually quite a large discrepancy. I'd probably live with something between 5-10, but if you think about it 15% is TWICE what I would consider an acceptable tolerance.Who you calling a bean counter? Oh yeah - me. Oops. I forget sometimes, or at least, I try to!

The gauge is an accurate representation of the amount of fuel left, the DTE is an algorithum drawing from multiple inputs. Everytime you start your car and during your trip, the DTE recalculates and I can guarantee it will be different from when you shutdown to start up. Use it only as a guide, whereas you can bank on the gauge being correct.I swear people are becoming more and more stupid due to technology. How did you used to figure out how far you had to go, oh wait you used your brain, but now because the DTE says it on the screen you believe it, and everytime it fails on you.You can easily drive on any gazetted road in australia and make it to the next fuel station if you use your brain. South Member 323 Member For: 18y 4m 1d Gender: Male Location: Perth Posted 20/07/09 06:31 AM Share Posted 20/07/09 06:31 AM Where above does it say that the gauge reads empty when its not? Ah nowhere I can see, however it does say that the DTE reports 80kms to empty when in fact there is a lot more range left. Hence the comments about DTE being a stupid tool, and your brains doing the actual calculation. How's about we talk about the current thread, hence my comments, and not one that you are discussing elsewhere ey... A downfall, at least in my case, is that one of its determinants is the fuel gauge. Quite a common problem with FG owners I might add, so just adding my bit in the interests of helping others.
