He has a really good reputation around town for performance cars.Asked him about the Phase 1, 2, 3 and 4 kits for the XR6T. He said that only the Phase 1 is available at the moment and the others will soon follow.Apparently he installed a phase 1 the other day in a XR6T and it went from 240kw to around 275kw. APS quotes that you should get 280kw but we do not have the premium fuel up here as no one sells it.I was quoted $1650 no more to pay and he stated that you cannot see that it has been fitted.Just thought you would like to know.Cheers

Pretty obvious I think!!

Pretty obvious I think!!The unichip itself is in the car. The only thing you will see is wires going into the bottom of the ECU, and they're not obvious. Somewhere at the passengers feet I think.Anyone else have any ideas?

The unichip isn't in the Ford ECU it just wouldn't fit. I was at the Melbourne APS day and saw their ute with a unichip, or should I say I saw their unichiped ute with no obvious unichip. Maybe one of the other members who attended the day could back me on this one.

The casual observer wouldn't pick it, Ford mechanic or other xr6t nuts like yourselves might.

Guest confucious42 Guests Posted 07/09/03 12:21 PM Share Posted 07/09/03 12:21 PM Just a word of warning about UniChips,Was thinking about getting an XR6T but ended up with 03' WRX, nonetheless an adverticement caught my eye from APS that they could tune a REX to over 300kW. I chanced then to bump into a subie mechanic who was working on his own WRX and asked his opinion on the kits. He spoke highly of APS stuff except the UniChip!!Said that he'd seen more dead cars with them fitted than could be attributed to mere coincidence! Apparently the tend to ignore warning signals for car temp and run Very lean mixtures. May not apply to the XR but I wouldn't bank on it.
Cobra potty trained Lifetime Members 1,938 Member For: 21y 9m 19d Gender: Male Posted 07/09/03 12:36 PM Share Posted 07/09/03 12:36 PM thanks for the word of warning #42 ..... unichips power up the cars so one could expect some higher incidence of internal damage...IMHO it is extremely important to re-tune/check the chip regularly (depending on the level of tune) ..... fuel pumps loosing effeciency is a real concern, actually all mechanical aspects of the fuel flow .... a regular checkup overcomes the great majority of problems (a good idea to re-tune every year or two; or when another power mod is introduced .... high levels of tune will need checking at closer intervals.... APS phaseI would probably not need re-tuning at all)yes they lean the mix, that is part of removing the conservative fuel mix from the car manufacturer..I'd be very interested in some more detail from the subie mechanic ... what is his preferred means of engine management?
