The coast road is still one of the most beautiful runs to do up this way & the kuranda range is just plain fun just be careful if it rains it gets nasty. Make sure you go and see Lake Barine, have a bit of a feed there as well - and if you head there on a Sunday around 9am, you'll get some better sites when the tourist bus turns up... As Qik1 said, the Coastal road is also an awesome drive, great views and a decent road - unlike the rest of the place up here where you can loose a wheel in a pothole...The gillies range from Gordonvale is also a good run, just head up from there and go across the Tableland back around to Kuranda...you don't really want to be going down the gillies, unless you want to test your brakes! If you do, be a bit careful as there was recently an accident up there, so the boys in blue will be wafting around I suspectEnjoy the trip!
