Hey ppls ive had my FG ute for a few months now and ive been winging about the turbo whistlilng to the dealer, they told me that's how it was!

Now I thought maybe its noisy but to me it sounds like the bearings are frkt or its outa balance!

Ive been around turbos all my life so I know when they are frkt and this sounds frkt!

I got my bro to have a look in the drive way it makes the noise on light spool-up especialy on light acceleration whislt cruising, when u punch it it goes away.

So he sat there while I stalled it up and it made the noise, now it sounds like it could also be coming for the zorst, but can also be the case as sound travels from turbo to zorst.

Not sure wat the frk is going on I still think its the turbo balance.

Now I know it aint an FG think cos my bro just bought an FG sedan no whistle although I poked my head under and it has a totally diff exhaust system (maybe ute one whistles lol)

Has any1 else had this problem is it a ute thing maybe the zorst system?

I took the intake pipe off and the turbo has normal shaft play for a roller, hence why I think its a balance issue.

Bloody fords!!

Mate, I've had mine since last October. I have been waffling on about my turbo being noisy too. You could hear mine under light load (low whistle), and under full boost but moderate revs it makes an obvious noise like a sort of background scream. If you floor it, the turbo is pretty quiet.

This is what was found after comparing mine with a new G6T - ie basically nothing - the bearing tolerance is the same as a new one, the bit of oil in the bottom of the compressor housing is the same as the new one, the noises my turbo makes are basically the same as the new one except the G6 is said to have more sound deadening. If the compressor wheel blades have reasonable clearance from the housing they say that all is well. My compressor fan spins smoothly by hand.

Having said all that, I reckon the turbo is noisier than when the car was new. But since everything, including all joints and the intercooler, checks out to be tight and leak-free, I'm happy with that. My dealer, who bends over backwards to keep customers happy, says that the sure way to know that something is wrong with the turbo is to listen to it after driving it and then shutting down the motor. If you can barely hear it, or not at all, then usually it's ok.

Fresh oil, often, is the secret to petrol turbo long life, but you'd already know that. All my previous turbo experience is with Landcruiser diesels, Merc trucks, Cat and Hino gensets, and Cat loaders. None of them sound like my FG ie all were relatively quiet, especially the Japanese ones.

Sorry about the book, but that's my story.

I always thought my fg ute makes abit of a whistle noise. Cant hear anything in the car, just when its ticking over and im standing outside. Its not coming from the bonnet but more the rear end. Hasn't really worried me so far will mention it next time im at the dealer.

Sound like your experience?

No I can't really hear mine at idle, only when giving it a serve on full boost but not full throttle. You can hear it spooling up at pretty much any revs, but it's generally pretty quiet if you're just driving around, erm, legally.

yes my ute is the same, it had next to no noise brand new but after doing a 600k trip and putting the clock just over 1k the turbo makes a definitive growl/whistle when you give it some. still not sure wat its like at WOT cos im still wearing in so cant comment there. but to me it just sounds like its sucking more air rather than there being a problem with the turbo. may also be a problem with the turbo wastegate? does it seem to lag or labor a lil on the initial punch of the throttle?

I go in for 3k service next week, my engine ticks, tik tik tik tik tik tik tik. At first thought maybe ute noise but then lifted bonnet tik tik tik tik, I have had turbos before S15 and Liberty GT, but FG XR6 T has tik tik tic tik yic noise

Also at 2500 Kms pulled out of SC in front of truck put foot down and car nearly stalled. Car was in auto/performance shouldnt box be set up to avoid this.
