Yeah I always use the manual for important stuff like a gearbox, thanks for the soft copy - I only had a photocopy. Im going to do a full flush and put in the TransZ.

The plastic Pans have a drain plug

The steel pans used by Ford in Australia dont have a drain plug.

So which is standard the plastic or the steal? Do they come with plastic and ford changes them on the service.

these zf auto are a bitch to fill need to run trans oil to 30 deg but not over 40 deg if so need to let cool then check level then add oil for every 250ml of oil added you need to go through the process again till oil runs out of hole .does take time. took us about an hour and it took a lot of oil but now it run fine

I dont worry about the above

I measure the exact amount that drained out and then put the same amount back in

Hey guys, resurrecting an OLD thread here.

I just drained an FG I recently acquired. It had a metal pan on it, but no known service records for the trans.

I undid what I understand is the refilling plug, where fluid should sit at the level of the hole... I opened it first to be sure I could refill it and a good couple of litres of fluid came out.

Is that normal because it's been sitting, and dead cold?

Yes. Measurements are taken at 40c with can running..
