Passed an XR8 ute dumped on its guts this arvo on the way to work and whilst the car itself stood out in blue and sitting so low the thing that really stood out to me was the tub or panels above the wheel wells flapping in the breeze like the thing was going to take off...

It looked bloody shocking...do all the FG's do this?

Can't say I've had any comments from customers mate, maybe since it was dumped so hard the inner guards had been removed causing alot more air to run through the tub :stupid:

I have noticed in my rear view mirror (FG XR6T) that the tub looks like it is moving up and down. Like its not bolted on correctly.

how do you mean by flapping about? you could see it from within your car as you passed it?

edit: I think I now understand where you mean, I though by tub you meant the inner liner

Mine used to flap in the sides.. was a great joke I used on all my ford loving mates as to how crap there tubs are.. if you look underneath one its the inner guard and a lowsy bracket that stops the skin near the cab giving the cab a cuddle at speed..

All in all the tubs are junk and really built like a thro away item with a coat of paint chucked in for good measure.. I even laughed at the bumper stiffening bolt from memory hidden behind the nuber plate.. it just presses under the chassis with friction .. pull this out and the rear bar flaps as much as the sides.. cant expext much when they only recycled a case to build it lol

oh and the best part its even worse if you paid fpv coin for your ute cause its the same crappy tub and its not socially acceptable the dealer told me to remove it ( hence why I wasn't allowed to even consider one lol ) so you have to just put up with it

with anything on the racks the tub bobbed around a heap taking off and stopping at the lights.. freaks people out in the passengers seat when I point it out and annoyed me in the rear view mirror watching it dance around wondering when it would join me in the cab..

the yotas move slightly too but only 4bying under big flex as you see luxs with marks where the top of the tub hits the cab

This is whats wrong with the buying public - no one mentions this to dealers. Not sure about any other dealers, but if half of my ute customers came back to me with this issue, you'd be bloody sure Ford head office would know about it

Grasping.... :idhitit:

It was at about 110 on the freeway, the guards were moving a good 1/8 - 1/4 of an inch inwards and outwards rapidly. If you were in the car with the mirrors pointed at the wheel arch it would stand out like dogs balls...

Dont think it was to do with the lowering P@@ it wasnt that low in the rear to need it...I dunno know...he may have had a heavy load towards the rear of the tub causing it to flex...it just looked pretty bloody ordinary is all I do know and why I asked....

Has anybody noticed that there is not much protection under the tub and specifically the wheel wells.

I get dirt that comes up through the gap at the front of the top of the tub on the sides. It leave two dirty patches on the back of the Cab.

It looks like I will have to hose up on the inside of the panels to ensure they don't rust.

I'd raise this with my dealer but I'd get the same blank look when I told him my windscreen was not clear.....

Don't get me wrong , I love my ute. Its just the quality that is lacking..
