There hasnt been much on this other than a few flashing signs on the more major routes, however the speeding brackets are changing as of the 1st July, being a few days away. According to the Roads and Tolls Authority, this will make it a more fairer system and not raise any additional revenue for our beloved bankrupt state.

The biggest change is speeding <15 and speeding >15-30. Both of these now cost 3 points for some stupid reason, where as only a few years ago <15 was only 1 point. How you lose the same points for a low speed as a moderate speed has mind boggled me for some time. This has caused a record number of NSW drivers to have lost there licence, such as during double points period. You could imagine what this would do for truck drivers, couriers, taxi and many others, and often they continue to drive, when it then gets far worse.

Here are the new ones:

1 to 10kmh over the speed limit will attract one demerit point and an $84 fine;

11 to 20kmh over the speed limit will attract three demerit points and a $197 fine;

21 to 30kmh over the speed limit will attract four demerit points and a $338 fine;

31 to 45kmh will result in a three month suspension, five demerit points and a $647 fine;

Over 45kmh will result in a six month suspension, six demerit points and a $1,744 fine.

Noted changes:

* The old over 15-30 will now realistically cost 4 points and more $$$

* Over 30 will now cost 5 points and more $$$

* 0-10 will likely be rigoursly enforced by the States flash for cash devices

* 1 speed on red p's has always been loss of licence, but 2 speeds on green p's will now be the same

Let the debate begin. I think the more longer tooth drivers will notice even more.

Your point Buff is well noted, but 250k's + is well covered elsewhere. Over 45kms is limited not by magical numbers, but by other standards.

I mostly pinch 10 kmh

So 1 point and $84 I can live with.

If you're doing anymore then that you get what you deserve.

At 110 ks on your speedo you are in reality only doing 104 -106

So you overtake without exceeding the speed in the oppositions side of the road ?

This in my opininion causes more head ons than the speed limits prevent.

How often to you have a clear 800m - 1km of clear road to overtake at a

mincing 100kph, never.

I prefer to go out and around ASAP and ease back down to the limit.

That said a short burst from 90 ks can quickly see some pretty big speeds,

but a lot safer than watching an on coming car , and from inexperience or

fear of getting busted speeding ,sticking doggedly to the law and having or causing an

accident

I think most will concede this as fair, as does the State governmet, but this is nothing more then window dressing for the other changes.

It was 3 points for 0-15 not long ago.

All this will do is cause more unlicensed drivers, who are far more dangerous than exceeding the speed limit.

I just wished there was advertising over Excessive speed for the conditions and exceeding the speedlimit.

People are now speed conditioned into thinking that if they drive at or below the speedlimit they will not die, but exceed it by 5km/h and it means instant death.

I drive tot he conditions and rely on the lazy speed enforcement policies of our pathetic state govenment to ensure I am not booked.

Cameras have replaced cops in most speed enforcement, and that suits me fine.
