pfffft - wheels, that ever constant source of accurate motoring info

Don't be so ready to lap it all up as fact guys - this is all pure speculation, for the time being...all I know is (quote) "socks will be knocked off"

Actually I find Wheels to have been pretty accurate in the past, much more so than any other Australian publication even though a lot of them seem to be owned by the same company. I don’t think they just make up sh*t for the sake of it. They have many sources and are well connected in the motoring industry. Remember the car industry needs these mags as much as the mags need the cars.

As for the 285kW XR8 going backwards? I’m not so sure about that. The engine will be at least 100kg lighter if not more than the current BOSS. Also being direct injection should offer a better spread of torque with improved fuel economy. There is also talk of Ford wanting to make the cars lighter. Less power doesn’t always equate to less performance. I think it’s a smart move. The coyote is going to be a true performance V8 engine, not some “bitsa” just slapped together over night from truck parts.

Interesting to see what happens next year with the Ford V8 line up.

Nope, he's correct, Wheels are full of crap. There is no 5.8 litre version of Coyote, but there is a higher performance version called Road Runner with a bit more power for Mach 1 and Bullit Mustangs, but we won't get it AFAIK.

Also the Coyote doesn't have direct injection, it won't be ready for at least another 2 years, but its good for at least another 10% power, 2012 Mustang should have it.

Also no GTHO. Its not even in planning. They look at it from time to time but can never get it off the drawing board. They had a few 5.4 litre SC GT500 engines for it running around but it musn't have made it past the costing stage before it got scrapped. Running out of emmisions compliance and out of production was probably also a factor.

The GT will more than likely make HO levels of grunt anyway, it should probably keep a W427 close if it can get the torque down.

I saw an FPV memo at Titan Ford last Tuesday that said it isn't going to happen and is not even on the drawing board. The salesman said FPV had to release it to the dealers because of the enquiries that dealers who knew nothing about it before the Wheels Mag came out, were getting. Or maybe its an accidentally on purpose marketing ploy to test the viability :beerchug: , don't think so though.

That's just a red herring, don't listen to them. It was left out on purpose to confuse the less faithful!!!!

Even though it's not "GTHOish" this thing will have to be blown and around 400 or it's a waste of time.
