the missus started her new job this arvo so leaving at the last minute and no fuel in her suburu she takes the falcs (spec occasions only)its an hour drive there and an hour back so at 1230am I get a call she just got done for speeding and they decided to go over the car they gave her a notice on the bov and the exhaust ("this is cause it sounded not like theirs and was loud")

report reads either return sock exhaust or obtain a stationary noise test so im guessing this is gonna cost money?

Yep.

Someone on here had to do a noise test thingy because the Police deemed it too loud.

Can't remember who, but it wasn't that expensive. He passed.

If your car is loud....... good luck.

Years ago I had a letter sent to me in the mail from the EPA(I think). Went to Midas and they did a free test. Pretty rough on the details but it had to be below 90db 1.5m away on the 45degree angle.

Think that might have been me..

I got a letter in the mail, telling me my exhaust seemed too loud and had to get it tested at an authorised tester. My exhaust is stock so it passed with flying colours.. I read in your sig that you have a full exhaust, if it is loud than get an exhaust shop to put a quieter muffler on it and swap it back over after the test..

The test from memory is about $37..

Good luck..

So far all of your suggestions have come from the victorians, being NSW money and procedures are always a little different. The speeding ticket for the misses and you owning the car probably avoided a second ticket for the BOV. Take the car and your EPA referral as is and score some EPA fines, or remove the BOV (atmosphere venting) return the airbox to normal if that's also an issue, and make the exhaust quiter, ensuring the cat is legit. Put it all back on after this is done if you like and the risk another referral down the track.

Go through this too many times in the one year and the RTA will now cancel your rego.

And do you really think they cared yours was better sounding?

I.B,

where did he mention ANYTHING about them saying or him stating it sounded better??

As far as I can see all he said was DIFFERENT!!

valid points on the other stuff though.

sorry I. b. ("") is referred to bov and exhaust

personally I hate the sound (exhaust) "theres an exhaust note and an exhaust noise" my exhaust sounds like sh1t I dont like it it was champs b4 me

and yes b4 I even go near an rta or epa station I will spend the 5 minutes to re plumb the bov by the time I get to a checking station or wateva the exhaust and car will b warmed up and a tad quiter so I might wing it although I will be sure to let you know how it goes ...
