Hi there.

I had my 30,000 service just today.

and they found that my Rear Diff Bush is splitting.

I guess its why I always hear a creaking noise when going up on driveways..

but they refused to touch it because I've bolted on my intercooler and changed my cold air intake

no tune as yet..

but even though they said this is common but due to these mods, extra torque and sht like that .. can't warrant the diff.

:(

would this problem actually be caused by my bolt on mods.. and would I face damaging something if I just leave it?

.. I've never heard of people needing to replace their diffs once they mod their cars.

First of, it is a common fault, yes.

More importantly, it is a common fault on a lot of stock cars, not just modified ones.. Being modified (with big torque/power increases) would certainly help wear it out faster than usual.

Does this mean you should not have it replaced under warranty?

I'd think if your car has been modified for 30,000km then no.. sure, give it a go but don't be surprised when they say 'not under warranty".

Having said that, you're yet to have it tuned, which makes me think it hasn't been modified for that long at all, in which case Id say the problem would have started prior to the bolt on intercooler or CAI.

I have had mine replaced, no questions asked (luckily), well after I got my car modified. My modifications are subtle and I still use the stock exhaust tips etc so that it looks stock, but there is no way they drove it, played under the car and didn't notice it all lol.. I was lucky back then, but sadly I need another one soon.

I would suggest you take the CAI off and even the cooler if its a easy swap, then get the car sorted at another dealership. If the cooler is too hard, leave it on but maybe at least take the CAI off..?

The idea is to make them feel the car is under warranty, well looked after and not heavily modified. Some dealers will be tight, which sounds like the one you dealt with.

Good luck. :nyaah:

mine was replaced under warrenty twice they are a crappy bush Recently I was quoted 750 inc nolthane bush fitted. So with some help with some mechanic frinds the rear bush was replaced on there hoist with the nolthane superpro bush. I asked my mechanic mate how much he would charge to fit the bush he reckons only 3 hours labour and the bush is cheap as anyway. I have been driving around with it for a week now and it has been great it has cut alot of axle tramp down and also stopped allot of the clucking in the rear. I was advised against using a high tensile bolt as they sheer allot easier. The super pro bush is a million times easier to install than the crappy factory bush

the job isnt really that pricey to get done(ford dealers excluded lol)... as long as its just the 3 diff bushes and no other bushes need replacing should only take the average mechanic 3 or so hours to complete the job... first time I did it as a first year took me all of 5 hours to do all 3 bushes.....

Go to Ethridge Ford in Ringwood. They've done mine twice now and you've seen my mods.

A few people have p.m'd me in wanting to help me out, thanks heaps guys!

but yeh, I take my car to courtney and patterson in hiedelberg.. as I was told they look after cars that have been modified and are fine with doing things under warranty to a certain extent.

but being that I just bolted on the mods not long ago and my car looks fairly beafed up even though it isnt yet.. I just got denied :/

had 2 other minor problems they knocked back to which

were a bit ridiculous but will get into that later on another thread :|
