spool welcome to the forum.

firstly, it has been said already, learn to keep the mouth shut and take in the information from an expert and if you only remember a part of what was passed on you will be a smarter person.

also learn to tell the difference between a lecture and good advice.

if you carry on to the cops on the street like that you will garantee a defect notice for your self.

I have never met plonky, but by reading a lot of his posts I can tell that he has a great interest in performance vehicles and this forum.

I may be new to the forum but im not new to the car scene and I dont need advice from an "expert" as you call him.

Saying that, there is nothing wrong with dealing out advice but I just didnt like the way he dealt it out with all the labelling and exaggeration.

His "advice" was not news to anyone with a little experience in the car scene anyway.

You may gleefully choose to be shackled and dominated by our draconian road rules but drivers who refuse to dont need your garbage.

Removing a muffler is a minor infraction but your going on as if it was worse than hitting Nos down a sidestreet.

Muffler removal is not the domain of the "Dickhead" as you ignorantly state.

Its a smart and proffitable move infact.

Ive never driven a car that's had a complient exhaust system.

For 5 years I drove a VL turbo with straight through exhaust,no mufflers only a cat converter.

I hooned around with it as well and did I get caught?

Yes I got caught ONCE.

Thanks to freakishly bad luck on the way to work one morning, I ended up driving infront of a patrol car who happened to have an epa inspector with him and testing equipment.

I got done 300 bucks but after I cleared the defect I took the muffler back off again.

Why?

Because I understand that the chances of getting defected are extremely slim and im willing to take that chance rather than drive under the exaggerated umbrella of fear and conformatism that you do.

Simply put,the odds of getting busted for a missing muffler are extremley low.

The reward is worth the risk.

The XR6T does not attraction anyway, its not a hoon car and wont be for years so unless you just happen to give it a bootfull right infront of a cop you would be pretty immune to any hassles.

You seem to be unaware that if a cop wants to defect you HE WILL regardless of what your driving.

Ive seen cars done for the most trivial violations, that ive realized that if you want to be totally immune then you shouldnt bother backing out of your driveway.

If you want to enjoy a performance car you have to take some calculated risks and gambles in my opinion.

You just need to know how far to step and where.

I really wasn't going to bite but then I had second thoughts....

If you'll reread the post, Plonky says "I'm all for modifying the car, cheap power increases etc, but don't say you weren't warned when some knucklehead in an XR6Turbo, driving around being an idiot (obviously not someone on this Forum) gets his modified car examined by the Police/RTA/EPA and the centre muffler modification is found."

Sounds like he's for the idea and that the "dickhead" comment that got you so fired up was for the guy who's driving like an idiot and gets caught, then makes the rest of us T drivers a target for the cops.

Chill - you'll find that there's a lot of good information on here and the Plonky gives a lot of useful informations from the other side of the fence that we would otherwise only be able to speculate about.

*laughs* I'd rather read a post by Plonky to hear how the cops see these kind of mads than I would being told about it at some silly time of night on my way home from a dinner with the other half in the car.

Surely it's not hard to whack a basic "hotdog" into the place and be legal ;)

Having just back from my Quakers Convention (having passed legislation to have alcohol, rock music, forced induction and porn banned, as well as mandated that any more than 4 cyls is a hanging offence) I finally got the opportunity to read the wise words from Tool (sorry) Spool.

I hope you sinners have taken his advice and throw maturity, information and commonsense to the wind and become as wise and informative as he is.

I'm off the pulpit now but the Good Book is still in my hand praying for all of the sinners who think it's nice and safe to respect what the majority in the community want.

Redeem yourselves, follow the word of Spool and become educated, wise and street smart! (wa*ker!)

Lighten up mate - READ a bit more before you jump in boots an' all.

Glad to hear you got rid of the crappydoor ... :ermm:

This certainly got heated.......and all for nothing!

Lighten up! Offer advice or an alternative point of view, but dont dish out crap & offend individuals.....you end up offending far more people than you may have intended to.

I haven't got a centre muffler. I'm running illegal. I drive damn carefully when there is a marked unit in near vicinity. If I get nabbed, so be it, I knew the risks. :nugget:

Just means I'll have to spend the dollars & get the APS Phase 2 upgrade sooner rather than later! :o

Love your work there Quaker plonky.... :innocent:

Must admit there are too many people on the road that just know it all already that scare the livin' bejesus outta me!

I am still working my way through the threads, reading the posts and catching up on it all.... but felt I wanted to contribute some fluff to this one :D

Firstly.....

Our order for the XR6T (aka Bruce) has only just gone in, so we have the long road of waiting ahead.

Secondly.....

I look forward to reading sensible posts in the meantime.

And Thirdly.....

But if I can just say, I once drove a dunnydoor *the shame the shame* and hope to prove that we all aren't tossers like some.....

So, lets all stay happy and smiling and I will pass out JellyBeans to everyone? (Don't everyone just pick the red and black ones either please! )

Cheers!

I hate to be a party pooper but the removal of the muffler without replacing it with another muffler is illegal.  In the EPA regs there is a section which deals with (amongst others) ram pod style filters and externally venting blow off valves, and it also mandates that the exhaust system MUST have the same number of mufflers/resonators that is on the car when it is manufactured.

I'm all for modifying the car, cheap power increases etc, but don't say you weren't warned when some knucklehead in an XR6Turbo, driving around being an idiot (obviously not someone on this Forum) gets his modified car examined by the Police/RTA/EPA and the centre muffler modification is found.

The EPA guys will send out an information sheet to the HWP advising what types of cars to look at and what type of mods are illegal.

When this happens blame the idiot in an XR6Turbo who has been playing up in the car and brought himself and the modifications under notice.  This means that it is going to affect the good guys who just want a bit more power and use it responsibly.

D*ckheads and Ramraiders don't only drive Jap grey imports and GTR'S WRX'S etc etc.  The cult car of the new century will be their flavour of the month soon too!

By what you have inferred, the only way you can enjoy a performance car is to do something illegal ? Deary me !!

Remember the Simpsons episode when Bart tried to grab the electrified cake, got electrocuted, but reached out again. Bit like having the muffler off, getting booked, putting it back on, then taking it off again.

Do you honestly think that you getting busted was freakishly bad luck, or in some way caused by your own immaturity. This 'freakish bad luck' would not have occurred should the muffler have been attached.

Its people like you that gives society the justification for the 'draconian' road rules, and if you think ours are bad travel overseas ! Some people cant make their own decisions so they need someone to make them for them.

Clearly the overwhelming opinion here is that you are wrong, in fact the entire opinion is thus.

But, as you have been told, if you wish to live in your fantasy world, rip the muffler off, modify it to buggery illegally, then have the intestinal fortitude to cop it on the chin like a man when you get caught, and you will.

Then again some people just live to be 'fully sik moit'!!

I pitty any person who is unfortunate enough to be pulled over by you Velvet Glove. You are a "by the book" wowser and are the type of copper that gives other coppers a bad name. A XR6 Turbo is wasted on you.
