unless you drive like a galoot and have a big sign on the car saying "BOOK ME" you should be OK.

Guess I'd better cancel those BOOKME plates then... :D

External venting BOV's are not allowed. Manufacturers install a BOV that is plumbed back into the inlet/exhaust system.

So Plonky, do you actually own a XR6T or just drive them at work? Not meant in a negative way if you don't own a T, everybody's welcome here!

The law is an ass, True, but it is there to reflect what the majority of the community want.  I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate some cretin driving in your street at 2am when your trying to sleep and there was no ticket or legal action that could be handed out.

Spot on plonky.

Also there's a saying, "If you think there is a law for a given situation the chances are there definately is". Handy bit of advice ;)

And on the subject of this post, after reading it EID found me at 9:00 pm head down under the hawk with flashlight double checking I had 2 mufflers, whew, certainally was. Then the she sweetly says in that smarmy way wives have got, "Why did'nt you check 'My Pictures' you took enough photos of the bloody thing?"............cow!! :D

In the EPA regs there is a section which deals with (amongst others) ram pod style filters and externally venting blow off valves

So what does it say about BOV's - surely must be a regulation against those ricey valves "Pfffsssstwhoosh"??

CFlat

This might be the section  . Plonk?

A person must not cause or permit a motor vehicle’s engine, or its air intake or exhaust system, to be modified or repaired in such a manner that the maximum noise level of the motor vehicle after the repair or modification (regardless of the noise level of the motor vehicle before the repair or modification) exceeds the maximum noise level specified in Schedule 1 for that kind of motor vehicle.

Maximum penalty: 100 penalty units in the case of a corporation, 50 penalty units in the case of an individual

The noise limit for cars built after 1 January 1983 is 90 dB(A). $200 fine for individuals, $400 for the workshop that did it :violin: .

No Falchoon I don;t own an XR6T. I've been fortunate enough to drive one at work.

Apart from the Mustang Cobra, the Dodge and the Alfa 147 I don;t have any other cars except the car at work.

I did have an MY99 WRX and this is where my knowledge of all things turbo lays. I modified it as far as I could legally go so as to get a bit more performance and to kepp my credibility at work. A lot of the local hoodlums knew what I drove so it had to be legal (it is just an hypocrisy otherwise)

The same with the Dodge. My maximum allowable dB level is 98 due to it being a 1969, pre ADR car.

To keep my ears functional and to keep credibility I had the exhaust quietened down to 94dB.

Still sounds awesome (Think black Dodge Charger in Bullitt chased by McQueens Mustang)
