Geoff went from a 3" intake to a 4" on a pretty hi powered tune christian, there is a big difference between that and simpley putting a growler on a stock car - turbo spool is much faster, hence the tendency to overboost alot more.

In saying that though, the motor hasn't been torn down yet, so we'll have to wait and see what kind of destruction is in the belly of the beast!

so just bolting on a CAI witout tuning can cause something like this?

Seems a bit far fetched? All you're doing is altering the intake, which shouldn't make a difference?

Either way, good to see you're building it bigger and better.

What kind of clutch do you have?

just the standard typhoon twin plate clutch for the moment.. I have not had a problem slipping yet but im sure it soon will lol..

yep like senna_t said I upgraded to the 4" intake that combined with no guts in the cat as it come loose and I pulled it out was over boosting big time.. all the way up to around 24psi one time.. saying that when the motor let go I was not going hard or anything only reved to around 4000 then changed to third when it happened..

both this things would of helped in what happened.. so if you change to a CAI or up grade your cat get it checked out by your tuner.. couple hundred bucks can save around the 8-9000 I am up for lol.. pain in the ass as I was only a week away to getting it retuned

I'm starting to feel like my boost gauge investment was well worth it after reading all of this...

Seems as though it deteriorates the engine over time then the engines like to die at very strange times..

My mate had a fault actuator and his car was overboosting.. then he was taking off from the lights in 1st gear half throttle when the engine went boom, fire, oil, smoke, the lot.

Blew a whole out the side of the sump and did a rod. 1st gear half throttle 3500rpm wouldn't be much boost at all!

The engine gets highly stressed when it overboosts and is just hanging on, then the next time any load (and it doesn't have to be much) comes on it all goes bad!

One run at the drags and it overboosted next time I got into it, lots of smoke out the back. My tale of woe.

Also a rebuild kit coming from Brad.
