Also note that the new head, exhaust manifold design, throttle setting and intake plumbing is what makes the FG so responsive.Benny

Ricky N Member 93 Member For: 15y 8m 19d Gender: Male Location: QLD Posted 07/11/09 12:52 AM Share Posted 07/11/09 12:52 AM (edited) The FG XR6-T turbo is not a smaller turbo. It is just a smaller compressor wheel. For me I personally think if they had addressed the wastegate issues a bit better there are better turbo choices. Even at the same factory power levels spool can be greatly increased. Here is the specs on the FG XR6-T T04S/GT35R hybrid Turbo. (500hp turbo) Compressor cover: T04E .50 A/R. Compressor wheel: Old school T04S/T04B. Inducer 53mm, Major 76mm. 7 bladed wheel. Turbine Wheel: New style GT35R. Major 68mm, Exducer 62mm. Turbine housing: GT35R. 1.06 A/R This is the compressor map but with a .70 A/R compressor cover not .50 A/R. Specs for the original BA, BF & FPV turbo. (650hp turbo) Compressor cover: T04E .50 A/R. Compressor wheel: New GT. Inducer 61mm, Major 82mm. 6 bladed wheel. Turbine Wheel: New style GT35R. Major 68mm, Exducer 62mm. Turbine housing: GT35R. 1.06 A/R This is the compressor map but with a .70 A/R compressor cover not .50 A/R. Specs for GT3076R (540hp turbo) Compressor cover: T04E .60 A/R. (But Ford could use the .50 A/R) Compressor wheel: New GT. Inducer 57mm, Major 76mm. 6 bladed wheel. Turbine Wheel: New style GT30R. Major 60mm, Exducer 55mm. Turbine housing: GT30R. 1.06 A/R This is the compressor map but with a .60 A/R compressor cover not .50 A/R. Specs for GT3071R (480hp turbo) Compressor cover: T04E .60 A/R. (But Ford could use the .50 A/R) Compressor wheel: New GT. Inducer 53mm, Major 71mm. 6 bladed wheel. Turbine Wheel: New style GT30R. Major 60mm, Exducer 55mm. Turbine housing: GT30R. 1.06 A/R This is the compressor map with the .50 A/R compressor housing. See how the original BA/BF turbo, GT3076R and GT3071R all have a good compressor size match to the turbine. Then the FG turbo has a tiny compressor wheel for the size of the turbine. This is what I meant by mismatch. If the wastegate issue was addressed either the GT3071R or GT3067R could of been used in the Ford housings. The spool would be much faster with the GT3076R and would be almost of idle with the GT3071R. So why did they choose to go with an old school compressor wheel on the existing turbo. I don’t know. I could speculate and say it was probably the cheapest option but I don’t really know. Being an OEM application with the aftermarket not being considered. If they had gone with the GT3071R core in the Ford housings there would be close to no turbo lag, same power and the car would be very easy to drive. (Of cause the wastegate issue would of had to be addressed) Edited 23/05/20 10:53 AM by k31th fixed pics
