The flash tuners have more than earned their stripes. I see no need to use an aftermarket ECU whatsoever.

The best example of this is BCL's car which had a Motec on it originally which was never good enough. It was then swapped to edit once that became available and it worked much better than the Motec ever did.

Thanks for the replies.

My choice of ECU would either be Autronic SM4 or ViPEC V88.

I have heard that the sensor triggers require modifications to work correctly with the SM4.

However the ViPEC V88 has has full sensor support for XR6T set in default triggers without any modifications.

I understand that the Flashtune is the way to go, however,

The cost of the full tuning package is expensive,

Then the time required to learn the software and how to use it correctly.

Plus I dont like the NO LIVE TUNING aspect.

I have spent to many years installing ECU's and Tuning them LIVE, to change to a Non Live Tuning method to me is daunting.

Not impossible just very different.

I am planning to install an autronic sm4 in the coming weeks on my ute with the fly by wire box

so autronic can deal with the fly-by-wire throttle body now. that's good to hear, we run the sm2 on our rx7 race car and its a gem . would love to one day run autronic on my t and be able to program it my self with out going to a tuner for every mod to make a new tune .

Fair enough, but why use a lesser product just because that's what you're used to?

Wouldn't you rather have the best equiqment to tune the car even if that means a little bit of a learning process?

On my STi I've just replaced the Autronic SM4 with the VIPEC.

Autronic no longer has proper support, 3 different tuners cound not get the Autronic to idle properly with 850cc injectors, whereas the VIPEC idles perfectly and is easy to tune. VIPEC just not well known enough yet, but word is spreading.

The fly by wire box isnt supplied by Autronic comes from TF Electronics

I understand where you are coming from, however to learn the software correctly and the Flashtune tuning format of data logging, modify map, save to flash box and then download to PCM all takes time.

Time equals money for the customer to pay out.

I feel it is unfair on a customer to shell out money for myself to learn on his car.

I can install the aftermarket ECU of choice and tune it without it dragging out for weeks as I learn.

This XR6T has a full Atomic engine package, fully forged bottom end, oil pump, monster camshafts and springs, big plenum, front mount, injectors, manifold and a T51, should make decent HP at the treads.

If this was a basic set up with exhaust mods, FMIC, injectors and a tweak in boost I may consider going the Flashtune way.

But for me and the position I am in the aftermarket ECU is the way to go.

The ViPEC V88 also supports XR6T Dual Camshaft Control and the DBW without any add on hardware.

It also has CAN BUS interfacing, but I am unsure whether interfacing with the XR6 dash is fully achievable as yet.

Something I will no doubt deal with when the time comes.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Are you stating that from experience? I wouldnt call a Motec M800 or a WOLF V500 a lesser product if you have actually tuned a car in real time. There are many BAs out there running aftermarket ECUs. Karmens car went 9.44 @145.10mph with an Autronic and that's 1 of about 6 cars I know of with an aftermarket ECU.. Just because Nizpro couldnt get it right doesnt mean that no one else can. Its just shows that were not experienced enough, nothing to be ashamed of.. If you have ever used SCTs Advantage you will just how much of a pain in the bum it really is to use.. Load up a processor code and get tables that have no relevance to the car what so ever. Then load the box, load the car etc..

Not to mention, I can put a 3 bar map sensor on an vipec and it has auxilery outputs for us guys wanting to run nitrous, then there is aslo launch control, anti lag etc... Lesser products hey ;)

Dont get me wrong for street and mild racing applications the standard ecu works a treat..
