Well all. It had to happen eventually.... Dave's BA motor failed yesterday in a spectacular fashion at a test n tune here in Mackay. He blew the motor at half track, and still managed a 11.0! It has punched 2 or 3 holes in the block, and there were bits of conrods, pistons and block all the way down the track! Unbelievably, the car still runs with 3 rods gone.... Dave is dissappointed he didn't get the chance to run another 9 second pass with the old BA clunker motor, but one positive was the car was the quickest its ever been to the 1/8th mile, so it was looking very good until the failure.

Might be finally the time that we see what Dave can do with a proper built engine!

Cheers

Leppy

Shame you didnt get a good run in as I heard they fully prepped the track for the meet.

Yes, I think I found and exceeded the limit of a BA motor, the car had 2 more psi, and about 50hp extra, (I would expect 800 engine hp)

she left a bit untidy but still with a 1.4 60ft, she was quicker at the 660ft mark, and up by 2mph, felt like it was still loving it.

then all went pear shaped, clunks and bangs were coming out of it everywhere, looks like 2 and 3 came out each side.

she still idles but sounds a bit tougher without the other 2 cylinders.

good info for my new engine though, because it feel real good for the first part of the track, nearly 112mph in 200 meters is sets up a good finish.

I was thinking of putting a BF motor in and see what it can do, but the way she blew, I think it might have been the pistons that let go, before the rods, I feel I would have got a drop in power for a bit as they bent if it was a few rods bending. imo.

time to get some grunt out of this car.

there was also a lot of PBs for other cars to

Nathens BF F6 (stock auto) (stock motor)ran 10.95, @127.7, 10.98 @127.3, 10.95 @ 127.4.

M selby BA xr6 (stock auto) stock motor with valve springs, ran 11.3 @126mph

BClarke BF GT Ken Bell supercharged (stock auto stock motor) ran 10.94 @127mph

D Anderson BA xr8 Ken Bell supercharged (stock auto, stock motor) ran 11.2 @122mph

Joal xr6 t BA (stock motor and auto) 12.0 122mph

John BA xt with stock NA auto but with a stock BA xr6turbo motor ran 11.95 at 121mph on old nangkangs.

shane first time with his car, ran 12.5 at 118mph on street tyres

Tony from PRE, ran a pb xr6tstock motor and auto, not sure of his best but I saw a 11.6.

dam you've got some cars seriously moving down there. Even on a ordinary night with your engine popping you cant take anything but positives away from it.

What was the track like?

The track was awsome, very sticky and well prepared, I think most people that attended ran PB's. It was sad to see Daves engine let go, it definately went out with a BANG!! Looking forward to seeing how the new engine will go.
