Well the latest Wheels mag confirms that an FPV GTHO is on the cards, if that's the case the GT will regain its crown!....But why can't we get an F6 HO at the same time?

http://www.carpoint.com.au/news/2009/large...ected-yet-15589

This article now suggests the GTHO has not been resurrected.......but special models are planned for September!!!....What might these special models be?...obviously a run out tactic of existing stock ahead of the phasing out of the old engine and changeover to new emission standards.

Is the R-spec making a comeback in September?

Just read the latest issue of Wheels (July 09) with the FG GT-HO on the cover. Interesting read about where Ford might be heading with the new V8.

In it the article states following specs:

XR8 – 5.0L – 285kW – 515Nm – Redline 6500rpm

GT – 5.8L (351ci) – 335kW – 580Nm – Redline 6700rpm

GT HO – 5.8L (351ci) – 350kW – 600Nm – Redline 6700rpm

The new 351ci Coyote engine will be lighter than the outgoing BOSS engine.

Coyote 5.8L (351) 225kg

BOSS 5.4L 330kg

HSV LS3 6.2L 208kg

An interesting figure Wheels derived was the change in power-to-weight ratio for the GT with the Coyote 5.8L 335kW engine. Power-to-weight will improve to 191kW/tonne (that’s up 21kW/tonne on the current GT). Now this is the cool bit. That’s not far off the W427 200kW/tonne and if they can keep the weight down on the HO (350kW) then is should have (in theory) a better power-to-weight ratio than the $160K W427. Awesome if Ford / FPV can achieve this. This would certainly put the HO back on the map.

If they can keep the car (HO) under that $100K psychological barrier, I think it will be quite a hit for the type of performance you will get.

I for one would love it. Ditch the GT-P (never liked the P bit). Allow people to option a GT to P specs if they want like in the good old days when you could spec out a car the way you wanted and everyone had a slightly different build sheet but the name of the car was the same. GT! I also like the fact that FPV’s will be 351 V8 over the XR8’s 302 V8. Modern tech engines, with a connection to Ford’s V8 heritage from the past. I for one would definitely consider a GT or even a HO if the above comes to fruition.

Wheels speculates according to its sources that we will see the new XR8 and GT engines later next year 2010 and expect to see the HO to make its debut May 2011 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the XY GT HO Phase 3.

What do you think guys? How does a GT and GT HO with a 351 (5.8L) with the above performance sound to you? Is this the kind of thing Ford fans would want to see?

(There is also mention of Ford’s ‘Bobcat’ Twin Turbo 5.0L V8 engine designed for truck applications. Running on a mixture of 85% petrol and 15% ethanol. Making 373kW and 1000Nm. I still prefer the 5.8L 351 N/A engine. There is something sweet about being able to own a new 351 again.)

Well, I would jump at the chance to own an XR8 that revved a bit harder and was lighter than my T-six.

I miss good old fashioned raw noise and throttle response... I still doubt it will kick in the back like a T though.

sorry guys but you are all dreaming!

there is no way Ford will approve a GTHO (high cost low volume) vehicle to be built in the economic state, with the future of GM and Chrystler in doubt and the US gov watching everything they do. it just aint going to happen!

and all the car mags/sites spit this crap out everytime they have nothing else better to talk about... the HO can come back, when it is going to fight for the title of "worlds fastest sports sedan" fighting against a tarted up commadore is not what the legend of the HO is about

I have two predictions:

IU am predicting that the 5.8 wont be available in time for testing so they will have two series of releases:

Series I Coyote:

5.0 XR8 - 310kw

5.0 GT - 325kw

Then when the Stroker becomes available later down the track:

Series II Coyote:

5.0 XR8 - 325kw

5.8 GT - 365kw

5.8 Supercharged GTHO - 375-400kw

That makes sense...Then further power upgrades further down the track...
