Just found this from car point

FPV GT-HO not resurrected... yetwords - Stephen Ottley

Ford performance operation denies hero car comeback but confirms other new models

Ford Performance Vehicles has maintained its desire to raise the iconic GT-HO nameplate from the dead but says no official action has been taken just yet. Company chief Rod Barrett has always said he wants to oversee the comeback of the legendary model but only when the time is right.

The company was forced to refute a report in the latest issue of Wheels magazine claiming FPV will have a new GT-HO ready to roll by 2011. The magazine cites the introduction of Ford’s new 'Coyote' V8 engine program for later this year as the catalyst for the re-born 'HO'.

The Coyote is an all-new, aluminium, double-overhead cam 5.0-litre V8 destined for the 2011 Mustang which is expected to be launched early in 2010 and eventually replace the Boss V8 in the Falcon XR8 locally. Initial power figures for the new powerplant are believed to be in the region of 300kW and 540Nm.

But FPV spokesman Dave Harding denies that any decision has been made over the new GT-HO saying there is still a lot of work to be done before any announcement can be made.

"We've got nothing to say and we won't for a while," Harding said.

Harding says FPV is yet to make a decision on replacing its Boss V8 range but it would seem highly unlikely that Ford and FPV would have two different V8 options locally.

Wheels speculates that the GT-HO would run with either a larger 5.0-litre version of the Coyote that produces 350kW and 600Nm or a supercharged version of the 5.0-litre unit.

But although FPV won't confirm the GT-HO it has announced plans for three new models to hit the road before the end of the year. First up will be the production version of the F6E that was shown in concept form at this year's Melbourne motor show.

Harding confirmed that the F6E will launch in August with an initial run of 40 examples with further cars likely to be built to order. Although no price has been announced Harding admitted it will be a "premium" model for the brand with a pricetag to match.

It will be powered by the same 310kW/565Nm turbo inline-six engine as the F6 but with the creature comforts and more subtle styling found on the GTE.

Following that Harding says there will be another special edition model -- available in both sedan and ute -- available in September. Aside from ruling out a repeat of the highly successful Cobra models launched back in 2007 Harding was tight-lipped.

It should be available across the whole V8 FPV range.

The F6 will probably not gain much, depending on what they need to do to it to get Euro 4 compliance. It may not get any extra power at all, but when it already beats HSV's that doesn't really matter. The GT will take up the role of the performance leader, as it should, not only due to its history but also because of it being the higher seller. The current sales split is something like 62:38 in favour of V8 FPV sales Vs F6 sales. so FPV are more likely to focus more on the V8 than the 6.

FPV have had enough of the GT not only having sand kicked in its face by HSV, but also by the F6. They want the GT to regain its crown.

Well the latest Wheels mag confirms that an FPV GTHO is on the cards, if that's the case the GT will regain its crown!....But why can't we get an F6 HO at the same time?

Hey tab am I close?? :3gears:

XR8 - 300kw

FPV GT - 325kw

FPV GTP - 375kw SC???

I'd say 325kw for the GT and GTP and 375kw (S/C) for the GTHO.

But I do believe the HO needs to smash the W427. So maybe 400kw+ say around 550hp would be nice. I know it's not all about power, handling, breaking etc are just as important. I just think the target market who would buy this car and also as a marketing exercise the car needs some HP cred. 550hp would give the GTHO that, and would even quieten down the harshest critics. But probably unfortunately for Ford I guess Expensive Daewoo can trump them with an LS9 600hp limited edition special if they wanted too. Sure they wouldn’t sell many but it's there if they need to use it. Expensive Daewoo can thank the Corvette ZR1 program in the Sates for that. If they did release an LS9 Late model camira it would sure piss off and destroy the values of current W427 owners that’s for sure.

Maybe 375kw can be enough if they use some lighter materials and actually take some weight out o the car giving it a far superior power to weight to any other 4 door family sedan in the world? Who knows? It's all speculation at the moment. But FPV do need a halo car like the HO.

I would imagine the turbo 6 being around a lot longer than the V8. It's all about economical performance these days.

Benny

ha, what's economical about a ford turbo 6. It uses as much fuel as my old ls1 with big cam.

I saw a nice study recently investigating claims that smaller forced induction motors are far more economical than larger NA motors. In all 4 cars they looked at, the economy was no more than a few % better in the forced induction case, and was worse in 2 of the models. Only Volkswagon seems to have delivered on the promise. Their little twin charger 1.4 is far more economical than their 2l FSI and makes more power and torque.

I dare say the 5L V8 will be barely any faster then the existing ones except for the supercharged version if it eventuates. Peak power is one thing, but if weight isn't drop significantly then a peaky 5L is going to struggle to get the big sedan off the line. Once on song it'll be sweet but off the mark it'll be a slug.

Knowing fords inability to build light cars, they'll save 50kg on the engine and then add 75kg of crap under the guise of ïncreased saftey".

But who said the engine will be peaky? It'll be direct injection and make a very good spread of torque and probably have shorter gearing to get it off the line smartly.

Not to mention the VCT helping to broaden the power range.

It will be good, hope they get it happening earlier & hope they dont hold back on the power

and increase it over future models a bit at a time.

Who knows maybe the GTHO will get the 5.0l twin Turbo Bobcat engine that makes 373kw and 1000nm.
