Hey Dan

First step was the boost solenoid. Dead easy to do that one but I wouldnt waste time trying to do it with the battery in place. I test drove straight after that and it had found all the power it was previously missing and came on much earlier and much harder.

Second step was throttle body. Just removed and sprayed with CRC Carb Cleaner, let it sit for a bit, sprayed again and wiped out with cotton buds and a soft cloth.

Tightened all hoses at the same time....most had an easy full turn on the clamp so I'd guess it is just a case of hoses going a little harder and contracting. Nothing obvious that would leak in a big way but there may possibly have been some pressure loss across the whole system.

Very first drive thismorning and it was obvious the issues were gone. No hesitation, no surge, just seamless and smooth. Once it was hot I gave it a good hard drive....pulls like a freight train and idles much smoother.

All in all very simple stuff and not hugely time consuming. All of the clamps are relatively easy to get at with a half reasonable tool kit.

Next on the agenda is probably a set of plugs as I doubt these have ever been changed. I suspect (hope) that may cure what very minor roughness remains at idle.

its really good to see the forum being used as the great resource it is and the positive feedback. some decent pads / dba4000 plus fluod change the the brakes will be MUCH better. You would also notice a huge ride and handling imrovement if you replace the worn shocks with bilsteins and change springs to kings 520/310s, check wheel alignment and put some good tyres on. that's what I'd be doing with this car for a significant improvement without breaking the bank.

Cheers for that. I have got a little lucky there. Bilsteins were fitted in March this year. Springs are Dobisports which I dont know a whole lot about but it seems to handle pretty well. Not sure if king springs would improve it more but it handles pretty well for what I want.

Can't wait until I sort mine out and have it driving like new again.

Not at all crappy anymore!

I bought it as simply a quick road car with no intention of doing a damn thing to it but already it has me hooked into investigating a few subtle changes.

Also glad you have sorted your car out, I had stuff sparks last week which were making me a very sad chap.

Gonna do the boost solenoid tomorrow I think.

Hey cheers for that. More than happy to wait a little for the airbox and CAI so if you are happy to sell it I'm keen.

I'm not entirely certain where I am going with brakes yet. General consensus seems to be that DBA4000 series should be ok with good pads & fluid. The current pads have heaps of meat on them but even with mildly spirited driving over the Rimutakas managed to fade pretty badly.

What they are is anyones guess but they aren't stayin :blush:

As for maintenance.....I would not have believed that such simple stuff could make a difference that dramatic. The huge power increase back to where it should have been is really secondary to the fact that it now goes like a good late model car should......no fuss, no drama, just drive. Awesome.

Are there many other enthusiasts in the Wgtn region?

The FPV club www.tickfordclub.org.nz is a good place to start to come across others.

I have never had fade from my brakes or shudder - standard BA Mk2 XR6T. But... I decided to get some big suckers before all the engine mods go on. The Rimutakas are definately the place to test the car out. (I live at the top of Upper Hutt just before the Rimutakas).
