Ba Standard 4 Speed Auto Trans 280-300rwkw's

need peoples experiences and opinions...

will the BA 4 speed standard trans cope with around 280rwkw's or have people had to rebuild and strengthen with this power output??

anyone with any experience or info let me know??

274rwkw on my box with no problems whatsoever.

Now someone else will post that their box failed at 200 rwkw.

Depends on how sympathetic a driver you are or maybe its the luck of the draw.

And gets a hard time nearly on a daily basis

Pretty sure it is all relative. How hard you thrash it and how good the tune is!

mine lasted 60thou std then 10thou at 300rwkw+

drive it easy nuffink will break drive it like a spastic (me) and everything will eventually give up

but gettning a rebuild/tuffened b4 its stuffed will be cheaper and a better trans

Ive killed one with a lttle over 300rwkw but that was more to do with what I was doing at the time (stalling/launching) and it only burnt out one of the clutch packs which is a relatively easy/cheap fix

all I would say is invest in good quality fluid and a tranny cooler and a good tune will make the difference

mine lasted a good 6 months of abuse

I picked my car up 2nd hand from ford with 45,000km on the clock. tis an 04 Mk1 BA XR6T 4 speed auto.

my car had around 50,000km on the clock when I manged to get my first tune into her, a capa 10psi generic tune.

made 255rwkw.

maybe 3 or 4 months later I threw a set of injectors and a wog cooler on and got it custom tuned. no trans cooler..

made 312rwkw....

thrashed every thursday and saturday night on the highways.. and maybe a few skids on a private road late on a saturday night....

and during the week if someone in an import or Expensive Daewoo wanted a shot at the title, I wasnt afraid of putting the boot in.

not to mention maybe 10 trips to the drags, averaging 4 runs for the night..

the standard gearbox lasted maybe 7 months running 312rwkw with getting thrashed almost everyday, and numerous trips to the drags.

it all comes down to how the car is driven.... no matter how well set-up your tune is, it will eventually die if you drive it hard.

to help prolong the life of your standard box I would be throwing on a trans cooler and a thermo fan.

and I would also be doing transmission flushes regularly, maybe every 3 months...

I ran 312rwkw for around 10 000ks now even more power I will see how it goes. It all comes down to tuning and how hard the shift points are set.

Mate your box will handle that power easily if you get it tuned by a competent tuner who knows these boxes. I bought my car with 320rwkw from sydney and the box stuffed up 3 times (once on the drive home to brissy). It was because of a poor tune from a well known tuner in sydney. Got it tuned by Elite here in brisbane and it hasn't missed a beat. Tuner will up the line pressures etc. Also, get a trans cooler, that will help for sure.
