quick question about the tweeters, where are you putting them? are you gutting the stock ones out to put the new ones in or getting rid of the old ones all together?

im asking because I want to install splits but dont want cut holes in the door or pillar for the tweeters.

I have started installing 6.5in splits in the front doors of my BA. Required some work to fit being a standard 5x7in but sounds good so far just running off the standard HU at the moment.

As for running speaker wire through the door grommet I found this extremely difficult as unlike the old models this now has a wiring loom with plug whereas previously they were just wires. I must have spent 30mins trying to push through my coat hanger with the wire attached before realising what the fark was happening!

I found that it was easier to unclip the boot/plug (rectangle part) from the car body and inside the rubber boot there is a black plastic case/cage that has the white plug inside of it. Removing the black cage and feeding the wire through on one of the corners was the easiest way then just clip it back together. For some reason Ford have this plug here but also have 2 yellow wires that run past the plug like I have done with my speaker wire? maybe an after thought?

I have only fed the cable through one door atm but will try just using the standard wiring harness on the other door through this part and cut and solder the wires on the inside kick panel, listen for any differences and get back to you as like I said this was seriously a painful exercise!!!

I have placed the xover in the door also as there was just no more room to run another wire through the door grommet cage thingy...

External door skin has been sound deadened with flashtak and sounds a heap better even with the standard speakers, internal skin has not been done yet and I may not as there is little air leak with the foam stuff but will see when some decent amp power is running through them.

I have disconnected the original tweeter on the pillar also and it sounds pretty good. I do have 2 sets of MB Quarts so can also try the spare tweeters up there to see what I like best.

Couple of pics for now

My MB Quarts are now 10years old!

Hey guys I am planning on replacing the splits in my Fg Ute. I am planning on running new wiring to the doors, what is the best way to do this? And also where is the best place to tap into existing wiring. Thanks Nathan

You'll need a coat hanger, some quality cable to go through the door to the midbass, cable ties, a lot of patience and some luck. lol

Just joking, it's not that bad, but it can be a bit frustrating.

When I did mine I ran new cable into the door through the rubber boot that goes through the door jam.

It can be frustrating to get the plugs out of both the door and the side of the body but it can be done.

Trace your factory wiring back from the speaker through the door jam into the cab and pull it all back inside the car. This will be your signal to the crossover. But before you pull it back through the door jam, solder the new cable to the end of it and pull it through. This will save you heaps of time and swear words instead of running it from the inside out.

This cable will go from your midbass to the crossover. You then need to pull the side panel off the dash to run the cable for the tweeter up behind the sail panel.

Connect it all up with the crossovers tucked up under the dash and cable tied firmly in place and your all done.

Hope this helps.
