Hi Everyone :-)

I'm new to the forum and need some help and advice if anyone can give me some.

I am looking at purchasing an 03/04 BA XR6 Turbo Ute preferably one that comes with premium sound and brake package.

- just want some feedback on how the 5 speed manual and the auto transmission hold up when putting such kits as the aps phase II on the ute to up the power output.

- is it better to go the auto or manual and does either need to be modified or strengthened to deal with the increase in power. also apart from aps what other ways have people gone to reach the 280+rwkw figure??

pretty much any info you have on the ute and buyer beware stuff would really help me out!!! By the way I'm in ADELAIDE SA so any good tuners in SA you can recommend would be appreciated.

many thanks :-)

Aaron.

there is a bazillion threads on this mate haha,

03 ---> early 06 have htew weaker conrods and are limited to 280RWKW, 4 speed auto and 5 speed manuals WILL blow up with any mods.

everyone with mods run either purpose built 4 speeds (which still dont last for ever), or 6 speed

03-06 can safely go to 330-350 rwkw

the 4 speed auto is safe to about 280-300 rwkw and then will need constant mainatanance and rebuilding over that

the 5 speed manual is a dog, with one leg! its borderline on blowing up with stock power

the 6 speed manual or auto are pretty bullet proof

so if I opt for the 4 speed statndard auto over the 5 speed manual, the aps kit gets you around 280 rwkw, the 4 speed auto should need no modification and should handle the increase of power. anyone got the aps kit on the 4 speed auto and can give some feedback to support this??

cheers.

Yeah I guess everybody has had their own experiences. I had a ba xr6 t 4 speed auto, making 283 rears. For the first year I was giving it a pounding, doing second and 3rd gear burnouts all over the place and it held up, for a year. Then I got it rebuilt and " strengthened ", and from the word go it wasnt responding well. Then the motor went and I cracked the sh*ts and got rid of it.

Recently I seen my old ride advertised on the ls1 forum, and it stated in the description that hes also had the auto rebuilt. Stay away from the 4 speeds if planning to modify. Personally if I was going to buy another T, id would be a 6 manual.....

:Welcome2FordXR6t:

You won't get premium sound (colour screen) in a BA ute unless you fit it aftermarket, or it's already been fitted. It wasn't a factory option.

The auto is the way to go if the other option is a T5.

Most autos these days aren't modded anywhere near as much as they used to be. The fact is some shops tried to do to much to them and this actually made them weaker. Give Bayswater Autos a call and they'll give you an idea of what's required.

Getting the 280rwkw's shouldn't be a problem. I'd get...

Process West Stage 1

K&N filter with F6 lower intake

Injectors

Valve springs (if required)

Dump and cat

Trans cooler

Walbro intank pump (if required).

sound advice there :innocent:

there is so many things you can add on to the engine package to make it go faster but becareful............ a good tune is like gold and is essential when modding !
