DO yourself a favour & go straight for the keg setup, its pretty cheap these days. The biggest problem with brewing, as everybody else said, is the cleaning of bottles. If you go down the bottles route, get into a habit of cleaning as you go, and make sure you put them upside down to dry. Brewing is a great experience, & with the keg system the missus cant count the empties.

Go the home brew! Yes brewing yourself can be alot of trial and error. I ended up buying my beer from a local brew shop. ie although more expensive $150 for 50 litres its easy with the keg setup. I drop the keg off clean they fill it I pick up keg put in my fridge with tap set up and away I go. I drank a crap load of this stuff the only reason I stopped was my old tank of a fridge dies and new fridges dont really cater for 40l kegs!!! And the power drain from an old fridge was HUGE. Give it a go though brew shops still save u half what u pay in a bottle shop. BRU4U was the place I used so much to choose from!!!

not exactly "home" brew, but I did a batch of corona's at one of those brew your own type places, tasted great.

advantages of these places is no need for all the brewing stuff at home. you cook it up at their premises, come back in 2 weeks and bottle. all you need to do and ensure bottles are clean. was only $135 for six cartons.

disadvantage - have to keep the bottles chilled once you bottle, so really need a second fridge.

I've been brewing my own beer for a few years now. The best advice I can give you is to keep the whole process as simple as possible, be patient & keep everything as clean as possible.

and don't try and "boost" the alcohol content by adding extra sugar, if you follow the instructions you'll wind up with a tasty brew you can drink, I love the coopers but there's plenty of others out there that are good too.

Adding too much sugar makes bottles explode apparently - I was tempted to try it, but that'd be a waste now wouldn't it...!

I know some people that try & pump up the alcohol content, which is fine, but I prefer to keep mine to around 4.5%.

It still tastes good & you can drink em all night long without waking up in the gutter covered in vomit. Which is not such a bad thing though
