Zf Flaring When Cold

Been having similar issues for a month or so with my F6 ZF 6 speed.

It does the bang into 1st at take-off from lights, and also sometimes flares between gears.

The latest annoying one is it "hunting" in revs at any constant speed from 70kph upwards... Like it's unable to lock into gear.

So far, have changed the pan (with built in filter) and changed the fluid... Still no better... By the way, Mine has 90,000ks on it, and has been running 320...330rwkw's most of it's life.

We have a fault code 701 which translates to "Trans control system circuit out of range/signals from trans control out of range".

"Possible causes.. Faulty wiring/and/or connections"

From what I'm led to believe, a proper ZF "scan-tool" is required to fully test the box?

Next is a drive to Kewish Auto's in Dandenong (unless someone here has a better idea???)

I recently had the oil in the ZF changed to Castrol Transmax, and they also did the filter kit and things seemed fine for a while, but now the gearbox flares when cold. I'll be driving along at a steady 80km/h or so, and the revs keep changing between 1500 and 2100, back and forth. It seems fine when fully warmed up.

Now has any one else had issues since moving to transmax, as the gearbox was well behaved on the stock oil. I changed over as insurance now the car is making so much power power. It's only done 18000km.

I'm not sure if this will be the same as you but when the driveline protection is removed from the software during tuning process to let the 6 speed boost off the line, this is the cause of the flaring when cold.

I have proven this with my tuner by turning drive line protection on.
