Firmware upgrades for current owners of x3 to suit the ZF programming will be avaliable from your tuner at no cost ,

for the tuner to be able to calibrate your ZF trans a new firware must be installed.

herrod are still testing and once they are happy with the firmware a release date will be announced

xcal2 won't be able to tune the zf, only xcal3 can. so everyone who has a xcal2 has to upgrade to a xcal3. pretty sure there's a few with the xcal2 on here. so you have to buy the xcal3 $695-$795, then pay for a retune around $1000. gonna be alot of unhappy people. street tuner posted it up on page 4 post 71.

X2 simply doesnt have the memory to support the additional size of the transmission module.

X2 was designed in an era where there were no off-board transmission controllers in these cars hence being able to load the ZF file was never part of the design brief. X3 was prepared for this eventuality.

The good news is that you dont - have - to tune your ZF. So you dont - have - to upgrade the X2 if you have one.

ZF Tuning is an option for those that want it rather than a mandatory part of the tuning process.

If anyone wants any specific technical information on what will be available to the tuners/customers in the ZF calibration software, then ask away. I have been involved in the development process and am happy to answer your questions :)

Where'd you go? We asked a few Q's just after you posted this. Love us and leave us? :'(

I look forward to this option finally being released and well done to all involved, I'm sure there has been some deep despair during the last couple of years of developement.

Just as a matter of interest do you think you will be able purchase a Xcal 3 with a couple generic tunes for the ZF or will it be a custom tune for the individual needs?

Anyway I'll be one of the first to upgrade from the Xcal 2 to Xcal 3 to tune my ZF and finally get some real performance.

Sorry Steve I missed your questions!

Amongst all the background noise its easy to do....now let me go looking for them....

Ok I found it. My advice would be to have the transmission internal settings (mechanical) set back to factory, and then use the tuning software to adjust the pressures up where need be. It probably could be done backwards as you request, but I have never tried it so cant give you a definite answer.

Each and every ZF tune will be custom, where the file has to be uploaded out of the individual vehicle for modification by a tuner. At this stage we have indentified over a dozen different base programs in the same series of vehicle.....so no generic....at this stage :)

How different have they been?

Does Ford do any mods to the ZF when they get delivered from Germany or do they just install them and treat it as a 'black box'?
