Are all of the metal replacement tensioner idler pulleys aluminium and will have this issue? Or are there more preferred options?

Well I checked with Repco, and they do have an idler pulley made from machined steel (see pic), so given past experiences with alu, this is now going on my car.

Cost was only $35, so worthwhile insurance.

Just a quick question, is there any tricks to getting the tensioner off, and anything I need to now when putting back on. Cheers

3/8 breaker bar to get the belt off, and a socket to undo the one bolt on the tensioner.

Putting it back on is easy as it lines it self up so you can't get positioning wrong. (I used some medium locktite on the bolt)

Mine are noisy as is, I know the FG's whine buy think it's a bit excessive. And if your gonna do it why not try and use better parts.

Yeah, mine are noisy as well and that's just after 50k on them. Replacing them next service with the aftermarket ones.
