+1 here for doing it right the first time... May aswell get a headunit, nothing over the top, could get one for the same money as a line converter, and it'll sound better too..

Yea could do Mika.

If I was to do a headunit, I'd want to put it behind the seats or in the centre console. Never been a fan of head units in the tissue holder.

Is there much in the way of headunits with external remotes displays? - something I could mount to the right of the ICC

I installed a BUS20 into an 09 STi. The owner wanted an improvement in the lower end without taking up any space nor having the wife notice it. It all depends on what you are after in terms of SQ and Volume. For his intended purposes, it fits the bill just fine. Slots in under the seat discretely and produces more than enough bass to fill the entire cabin with a fair bit puff to spare.

I have an fg ute also and decided to go with a clarion monoblock and clarion shallow mount 10" which I boxed myself. The result is more than enough to bruise your kidneys and as it was only intended to supplement the change of the doors speakers (running off stock headunit) its doing the job just fine.

It all depends on what you're after mate. There seems to be an option for all budgets and varying needs.
