Hi everyone,

Just received an email stating the all Mobile phone numbers are going public starting from next month.

* This is for all Australian numbers.

* All mobile phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.

* You will be charged for these calls

Below is a link where you can enter your phone numbers online to put an end to telemarketing

https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

Hmmm, every few months I hear of this same (or similar variation) email.

I don't understand how you could be charged for someone else ringing your phone ^_^

ACMA is aware of an email currently circulating providing misinformation about mobile numbers being made 'public' in the near future. The email also claims that mobile users will be charged for calls made by telemarketing companies to their mobile service.

The Australian Do Not Call Register has strong mechanisms in place to protect the privacy of registrants. The numbers on the Do Not Call Register are never provided directly to telemarketers. This charging regime does not apply in Australia. ACMA recommends recipients of the email delete it and not forward it on to other email users.

I've heard though, that if you do register with the Do Not Call thingo you end up getting more calls from charities and surveys etc because they are exempt from it and to them it's like saying "ring me, ring me"
