Hi Sorry to dredge up an old topic but was planing on installing a catch can and was talking to a mate at work, who has just finished his build of his nutso 400kw R32 GTR. he was saying that his catch can goes from the breather hose on the rocker cover, to the can and then back to his intake (just like everyones here) and then instead of a breather on the can or sealed. he has a drain on the bottom of the can that goes to his sump. he

what do you guys reckon?

is it nessisary on the T?

and would there be any benifits doing it this way compared to what others have done?

Thanks In Advance.

I did the same setup as you described on my twin turbo Toyota corona which suffered from excessive venting from the rocker cover. The venting so bad that the can would fill up the catch can after a few runs down the quarter mile, but that was due to the setup I was running which I will talk about another time. There is a bit of science when draining the catch can back into the sump to prevent pressure going back up the drain hose back into the can. One method is the make the drain hose big enough, another is to have a check valve. Good quality check valves arnt cheap though. Have a read of that article I posted as a link, should explain more.

I have fitted a catch can to my XRT a few months back, the oil hasnt even registered on the sight gauge on the side of the tank yet. I dont think the venting oil vapour is nearly bad enough to drain back to the sump. Maybe when you are running very high boost or have a high km engine. Id put the catch can in without a drain and monitor how much it collects before you invest time and money in a drain back to the sump.

Keep in mind I think that's illegal and very noticeable. It Probably is on a catch can too but at least you can hide it.

I just fitted small black Monza breather filter directly on the engine outlet on my BF F6..Works a treat! $12.95 plus $2 for the bolt to block the hole in the crossover.

Cheap , easy and effective , but if you get asked to lift you bonnet , Bang there it is , right in front of your face. Defect time.
