Hey all

Few months back when I tried to start the Xrt, it had kicked over but failed to actually start. After a few more attempts, and reseting the throttle sensor, it finally started, but ran really rough (sounded like it may have only been running on 4 or 5 cyl's :censored: ) After a few minuets of idleing it started to run properly. Since then it has randomly done the same thing once every month or so (3 or 4 times now). Last time however it took alot longer to start, then once it did, continued to run real rough for quite some time (sounded like a suburu.. that tut tut tut sound), after I drove it a few blocks it finally ran properly again, and been gold since.

Im no mechanic but @ a guess im thinking coil packs?? ive seen a few threads on coil packs but it doesnt seem to have the same symptoms as what ive read.

Any input is greatly appriciated. :spoton:

Thanks

mate no expert on these cars but you got my 20 cents worth....I think a faulty coil pack would give problems when the engine is at operating temperature not cold and at a higher rpm range....Cheers Nick

I had same thing happen in my XR (only a few times in the XR) and fairmont.. With the fairmont it always happened after I hadn't driven the car for a while.. When I first bought the fairmont (before I had a chance to change oil etc) it used to do exactly the same thing as yours if I had left it in the garage for a few days and not started it.. a mate said it sounded as though the valves were sticking due to dirty oil or something... Ever since I did a full flush and oil change it's been sweet.. I used to turn off as soon as it started up and sounded rough.. then I'd wait a few minutes and try again.. Wasn't game to try driving it while it sounded like that.

The fairmont blew a fair whack of smoke trying to start it when it did kick over too.. but as I said, since I did the oil flush/change it hasn't missed a beat..

I have changed the oil and filta a few times now, but never flushed it. I think one time it happened it may of blew a little smoke. . I cant help but think its electrical but. I also think I might not have held the the starter moter on long enough the first try each time, cos the last two times I did that was the last two times it happened. Since, I always make sure I turn it on for a few seconds before cranking, and make sure I dont stop too early. Aint happened again since ive made a habbit of this. Just wanna try find out what else it could be.

Thanks jimmy will give your idea a go anyways as it cant hurt. :freak:

how do you reset the throttle sensor?

mine did this the other day when I started it cold in the morning, the engine light came on so I turned it off, turned it back on and it was better

so I'm told... hold the accel pedal flat to the floor and crank for 10 sec's. My engine light never came on though any of these times

Dunno bout the battery, never thought of it actually :outahere: its bin in it since I got it like 6 or so months ago. will also test that when I get it back from the smash repairs :banghead:
