I have been having a problem pretty much ever since I had the car... at first I thought it could have gone away after a while as the car was still new...

changed rims/suspension bits and peices and it's still there.

it's a fairly decent scraping sound, if not crunching...

just curious if anyone has had a similar problem or knows what it could be..

I have read a brake issue with the fg but doesnt sound like it has the same symptoms.

I've had that problem with a number of my cars... Not quite a crunching, but a 'straining' sound.

I've been told to just ease off the wheel being 'fully locked' and the sound goes away. It does not decrease the turning circle at all either.

I don't know if that helps, but I hope it does! btw, I think I saw you the other day :stirthepot:

Car's looking tops!

Cheers,

Dan

what causes the problem though....

surely it can be fixed... it drives me nuts as it can even tend to do it at not 85%+ lock as well at times.

sounds like cavitation in the power steering pump - maybe it needs to be bled or something - either that or there is a fault in the steering rack :stirthepot:

Full lock puts strain on all the steering components and the pump is what makes a great deal of the noise. If you ease off then it goes away... there is no need to full lock and keep it there

I've heard from different people not to go full lock in any car as it puts unneccesary strain on the steering system as said earlier. I just ease off a little after hitting full lock, also haven't noticed any decrease in turning! My 2c +GST.
