Guest MR T6 Guests Posted 10/01/03 02:35 AM Share Posted 10/01/03 02:35 AM I have had my xr6t for a few days, and the only thing I am not happy about is the speakers in the car. I don't have premium sound and I am regreting I didn't get it. Anyway has anybody put aftermarket speakers in yet? Will it effect the car in anyway if I go ahead and change the speakers? Any info would be a great help.MR T6

Guest Andrew Guests Posted 10/01/03 01:06 PM Share Posted 10/01/03 01:06 PM I have also been thinking of upgrading speakers & I have premium sound. Premium sound is very good for a standard system but it does start to distort at high levels. The boys at Stage Co (no I don't work for them) recommend Focal or Equipe speakers & possibly an amp to go with it... depends on taste I guess. I have a set of focal speakers & equipe amp in the Patrol & it is difficult to get used to the XRt system... just as well I bought it to drive it!!!! Guest blackout Guests Posted 12/01/03 02:42 AM Share Posted 12/01/03 02:42 AM just remember, dont touch the shell of the car. if you touch the shell of the car and make the holes bigger, you're going to be in a lot of trouble!and good luck changing that head unit, ha ha ha :D (if you're planning to) otherwise, get some good speakers! clarion or kenwood will do nicely. Guest blackout Guests Posted 12/01/03 12:29 PM Share Posted 12/01/03 12:29 PM from 2000 cars onwards, your car will be deemed unroadworthy if you cut into your cars shell... or so I heard (I may be wrong)for example> cutting a bigger hole under the parcel shelf to accomodate bigger speakers

I had the same problem in my BMW 325CI, what you will need to do is source a high quality amplifier that will manage the high level input from the standard cd player, because I can bet the standard cd doesn't have conventional RCA plugs used to connect to aftermarket amplifiers, or totally bypass the cars cd player and custom install one in glove box under front seat or where ever else it will fit. While you’re at it you might as well add a subwoofer in the rear parcel shelf in the factory hole, I know the AU's still the hole when premium sound was not installed or another option is a sub box in the boot, it really depends on what type of sound your looking for. This was one of the first things I investigated prior to purchasing the car, the amount of money that you are going to spend now for a custom system is going to cost a lot more money than if you went for premium sound option.I know you cannot compare a custom car stereo installation to any factory installed system, all I can recommend to anyone out there considering premium sound, if money is an issue and you like nicer sounding system go for the premium sound package, if money isn't an issue skies the limit.
