Had a problem over the past few years with the neighbours damaging my stuff.

Tonight (3am) I had one of them throw a 750ml empty bottle of Jim Beam at the Turbo.

It somehow hit the boot and rear window and smashed without breaking the rear window.

Thank god as I just had a baby seat fitted last week and would have hated cleaning the glass out of it.

We know it was them as the dog was going crazy about 2 min before it happened as they walked out of

their front door, started a car and drove down the court and threw it as they came past.

Now what I am wanting to do is fit security cameras around the house to catch these people in the act

as the Police come round after it happens and say we cant do anything cause you didn't see it.

Just wondering if anyone has security cameras fitted to their house, what products they use and if it is legal or not.

We are seriously thinking of moving because of this as my wife is due in 6 weeks with our first baby

and I dont want this stuff going on once the baby comes so I am hoping that if I get the security cameras it may deter them.

mate as long as the cameras are on your property they are legal - id reccomend getting a dvr system - check out the dick smith web site there are some cheap as units on there and they are good quality (we use em for sercurity at work) make sure ya get day night cameras though that way ya can catch the farkers at night

The other way is to buy a capture card to put in your pc and buy the cameras seperate - bout 50 for the capture card and can pay anything from 45 - 500 for cameras

that sucks ass mate, I grew up with the same kind of neighbours, they even went as far as killing our staffy pup and even tried running my brother and I over in his truck. you dont need that sh*t when the baby comes so I hope you sort it out before then

My sister has a newsagency, her CCT system is clear as HD TV, the cops still didn`t anything when they were shown the footage of a break in.. Everyone could identify bastard..

You`ll only lose, it`s a sad state of affairs. If you go over and cave heads in you`ll get in the sh*t. If they are heaving Jimmy bottles at ya car for no reason, whats gonna happen if you actually get a successful conviction against one of them?

If you do own, well.. I`ve noticed here that eventually bad tenants will go.. But unfortunately a house will always seems to have some ne`r do well in residence.

Maximus, Have 4 cameras on my property connected to a 160 GB DVR recorder with one camera pointing up to the front gate a telephoto lens . They are infra red also for night viewing. I think my brand is Swann. The standard cameras are average so that's why I changed the main one for a higher quality unit. Not a big fan of alarms as everyone seems to ignore them anyway .Bought mine from Dick Smith for about $700.00 . Also put up a sign outside somewhere saying that there is CCCTV security and that may deter them from doing anything anyway.

Just got a call from the Knox Police (Vic) and they are sending round the Forensic guys to see if they can get prints.

Dunno what they can do with them but lets hope it goes into a database and they get something some day.

The dad next door came and saw me before and gave me the rego of the guy that was there last night so I will pass it on to the police.

Seeing as this stuff only happens at night I have found what seems like a pretty good night vision cam.

Thing is we live in a little quiet court in a nice area of Rowville (VIC) and they are the neighbours from hell.

Wife says finish off the little bits of the house that need it then sell up. I feel the same.

Definately getting Heavy Duty roller shutters fitted to all front windows before the baby comes though.

Also I have a nice dent in the boot where it hit. Didn't notice it at 3am but did before so off to the beaters she goes to get fixed.

Anyways just waiting for the Forensics now then off to clean my car.

Hey Tig Welder, you happy with the one you got and it does what you want???

I want mine for numberplates/faces at night so it needs to be good.

Im reasonably happy with mine, the downside is the standard cameras are average only so that's why I bought a high quality telephoto camera to hook up with it so I could get decent record of plates, faces etc which is what you will need for police to be able to use as evidence. If I was to buy it again I probably would buy the DVR unit only from them and add quality cameras. Night vision would probably struggle a bit with number plates from a distance as the night vision on mine is around 9 mtrs. range. Have a google around and look at the different systems to see what is available though. Swann have a website www.swannsecurity.com also.
