From there we can make a stop every 2 hours or so, we can just see how er are going and how we feel as the day progresses.

Are you guys stopping in Albury?

I spoke to CRO a while back and was arranging to pick up the convoy as it comes through. There's a Maccas and a Hungry Jacks on the highway as it comes through Albury if that helps.

I am leaving Sydney tomorrow morning for work... will be in Melbourne from 9:30am. I am organising a lift with harasn hopefully from my hotel in Melbourne to the day.. if anyone else is in Melbourne city let me know.. Im staying at the Rydges Melbourne, Exhibition St.

My number is 0409 443 804.

A special thanks to Ivan (Cro) for organising this.. You have been great..

As for the APS day on Friday Afternoon... APS have explained that they need interest of greater then 20 people. Unfortunately it looks like only 6 or so have responded.

I think due to this we should give it a miss.. maybe all of us go out for dinner or something afterwards...

More than likely we will have to stop in Albury for fuel etc, and it should be just about the right time for lunch. Last time I drove down I made it from Sydney to Albury on 1 tank, but we can see how we go.

Might be easiest if I get your mobile (pm me if you dont want to post it) and I can give you a call from Gundagai or Tarcutta, giving you an indication of how we are travelling and ETA in Albury.

Second that - big  to Ivan. Well done mate.

As for the APS tour, maybe if members that have their name down for this trip are sent an e-mail or PM about it as they might not be checking this thread. I would be dissapointed not to see what APS have got.

I agree too, a huge two thubs up for CRO :crazystuff::nuts:

As for the APS visit, it would be good but if it's not possible then dinner somewhere would be a good idea. I believe that there are quite a few of us staying in Geelong again Fri night so somewhere closeby would be good.

At least we can relax and not have the hassle of having to drive back to geelong afterwards, although it would be good to be able to include our Melbourne members.

Hi All

Is anyone interested in filling up once we're out of Sydney?

to get everyone on the same "fuel strategy"...

Last time (the Batemans Bay drive) there was some Optimax available about 30 minutes north of Marulan on the Hume. (not sure of the name...)

Does anyone have the contact details for Geoff Polites' office for Friday afternoon ? Just want to make sure that we don't get sh*fted at the last minute if he has to change his schedule. :banghead:

Will we be using the Melbourne tollroad system to get to Geelong ? (I think that there is some sort of requirement to "buy" electronic tickets to use the freeways????)

What UHF channel ? 22 like last time ?

Maybe I've missed it, but what's the meeting time/place for the Sydney contingent ?

Thanks

I havent planned any actual fuel stops, as I am assuming that a few people will have fuel cards that may be from different brands of petrol companies. If I planned the trip around say Optimax, those with Mobil, BP or Caltex cards would suffer. I think its easier if we just see how we go on the road, and use the CBs to work out if we need juice or not.

Albury would be a good place to fill, as it has every type of fuel. I got there from southern Sydney last time I went with 100Ks left on the DTE (with AC on the whole way), so we should get that far in convoy (slipstream for efficiency, peoples!).

As far as I know, the western ring road from Broadmeadows towards Geelong is toll free. Can any Melbourne people confirm or deny? Is this the best way to get to Geelong from the Hume?

Cro and I are finalising departure info now. He will put a meet point for Sydneysiders later today. On thursday he will meet, and drive down to Pheasants Nest where I will be with a couple of others. We will all leave from there, as well as decide on a UHF channel.

Full details on meeting places up shortly. Any other questions on the drive down to Melbourne let me know.

To keep things simple, can we use Ch 29 like last time?

Or can I give somebody a SMS to confirm what ch to use........

Although not from Melb I am quite familiar with the roads. The easiest way IMO is onto the Western Ring Road then follow it all the way until it terminates at the West Gate Fwy. All you do then is follow it out to Geelong.

Its toll free too. :banghead:
