I went to the NT Power cruise last weekend for both Saturday and Sunday. I have stock BF brakes which I understand are not bad compared to the BA's. Anyway. I did lots of heavy braking at the end of the main straight. When braking from 190KMph I had serious shuddering. Got worse over the weekend. Car wasn't shuddering when I was braking from about 100kmph.

I expected the brakes to fade but not shudder. it scared the sh*t out of my passengers. I have only done 22,000km.

Anyway, this week I have noticed that the brakes are really soft and squishy. It feels like they are hardly working at all. My very uneducated guess is that the fluid boiled and is either stuffed or has air in it.??? What do you guys reckon?

My guess is you have plain rotors with the standard brakes . The high speed shuddering comes from the gasses escaping from the brake pads and being trapped between the pad and rotor .

Have your rotors slotted or buy new slotted ones and you should find the issue goes away . Mine did . See pick on painted calipers thread , I had XR milled into rotors (has the same effect as slotting) .

I have my money on a set of warped rotors and possibly pads that have/are crumbling. one stop from 190kmh esp with passengers can do it, or repetitive braking with attitude. I saw a few as an apprentice mechanic.

Even great brakes road car brakes tend to do it, unless they are made with compromises for the road, like being usable at low temperatures, poor pedal feel, squeaking or grinding.

hopefully A.B.S can machine them straight for about $50 bucks and a set of pads, I think there around $270 if ford branded.

Get them checked by a mechanic asap, if you are not comfortable bleeding the lines yourself. You don't want to be in an emergency on the road with a bottomless pedal.

At minimum a DOT4 fluid change and have the discs machined if required. The rear pads may still be ok but the fronts may have fried.

If the discs are warped or now under their minimum thickness, replace with some DBA4000 slotted.

Yeah the BF brakes are better than BA but not great. PM me and I'll give you a look of my brembo front which are cheap for what you

get. The FG brakes seem better again but I've only done 2200km so far. Are you down the track on sunday? I'll be down in the

afternoon for the car concept rounds.

warped rotors is the shudder, The damn things would be glazed / warped and the pads likely glazed too from operating above their temp range - ie. anything spirited.

soft pedal will be from water in the lines, the fluid will have boiled and be cooked.

new pads + rotors + fluid. a good time to upgrade to better than stock.
