hey guys

I'm thinking of getting a car from a pte seller in SA.

what are the procedures and cost?

would I need a sa rwc or qld rwc?

is the rego transferable?

flying down to SA to see the car flesh is not really an option.

would a pre purchase inspection suffice?

how much is it to transport the car from SA to QLD?

You will need to get a QLD roadworthy and the rego is not transferable.

I bought mine from VIc and drove it back up to QLD.

It is more of a hassle than buying local however Its still reasonably easy.

no idea on transport I'm sure others will be able to help you out there

got this from the qld transport website

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Regis...e_or_territory/

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Regis...Motor_vehicles/

I get the car up to qld

pay up transfer fee, duty tax, new rego with rwc

previous owner un-reg and get back the remaining rego

is that right?

I don't think you can "unregister" a car. He ain't gonna get his money back if he's purchased a year rego and it's only 1 month in.

In adelaide they give the balance of the rego back but not the CTP insurance

you can cash in the rego.

My experience at auction going vic > nsw was buy it with vic rego, drive to nsw under vic rego and when you get back transfer rego to nsw and pay stamp duty with the RTA. I handed the plates into the RTA and got a receipt which I had to post to vic roads for a partial rego refund (10 months remaining minus a fee)
