At the moment I have a stock motor with a HDi Intercooler kit. It has been tuned to make about 225rwkw (which I thought was dissapointing) but at this boost level (about 10psi I think) it also has a surging issue. If I take off from standstill the car seems fine, but for example I use tiptronic and engage third at maybe 80km the car seems to have a surging problem where it cycles between boosting and then not. It does it really any time you load the engine and make it work from lower rpm at speed. My tuner has checked everything and the only thing he can suggest is put the stock cooler back on to see if it makes a difference. Which is the last thing I want to do as its a bugger of a job and may all be in vain as it sounds like a longshot to me. Any ideas?!

This could be the cause for the low power figure but it wouldn't be the cause of the surging.Surging is more likely to be fuel (or tune) related. I don't know your mods, but I would be looking at injectors and/or a pump before you go swapping the cooler over. Also make sure that all the vacuum lines and sensors are connected properly from when your cooler was fitted.

dvsboy Member 11 Member For: 16y 5m 17d Posted 14/05/09 07:18 AM Share Posted 14/05/09 07:18 AM I`ve got the excact same problem on my BA, but I can tell you it is not the intercooler. I had mine flash tuned before I installed my Hdi intercooler and it was surging the same way you have described. What I`ve actully noticed is that it has got a bit better since I put the cooler on. Yeah he tells me injectors are working well within their capacity, all the coil packs have been checked and are satisfactory. Apparently there was a fault code with the throttle body at one stage dont know if that has been sorted. Everything has been checked and I think he is just clutching at straws suggesting it could possibly be the new cooler! I know you guys advise to go elsewhere but at this stage there isnt really an elsewhere and once you go so far with a tuner its not so easy to change at least until current issues are resolved. our06t I'd be really interested if you knew anything more about these 'process codes'. Im sure this is a tuning issue even though he says there is a slight and very hard to detect surge on the standard tune.

stevet Member 85 Member For: 16y 7m 19d Posted 14/05/09 09:33 AM Author Share Posted 14/05/09 09:33 AM thanks mic. coils all checked ok apparently. Im starting to think its this tourqe control settings which our06t also suggested. The tuners are all scratching their heads cos a BF they tuned was sweet as, which would make sense seeing as its a totally different trans and capable of more load. Over the past 6 months I have changed valve springs, Coils, spark plugs (twice), fuel filter, got different fuel from several servo's, been back to a reputable(forum sponsor) tuner 3 times and they claim to have solved it opn the dyno but havent. Only thing that did fix it for a short time was getting new coils. Fixed it for a week, but then again it could have been all in my head. Im thinking its my gearbox but only in 2nd gear(ofcourse I have no basis on that just that it happens only in 2nd gear from lower rpm WOT. After tax time Im going for second round of power mods and a new tuner, hopefully may solve the issueGood luck hunting it down and let us know if you figure it out
