Thanks for all the info guys. I think it´s pretty much decided, the Ford FG XR6Turbo is leading at the moment. I was hoping I wouldn´t have to have the ´family´ car for awhile, but if I´m gonna have a family car, it may as well be a 270kw beast!

I have a manual FG Ute, has clocked up 4000ks and I adore it. The gear box does need some practice to avoid the clunks but its very tight and changes are very precise. Its near impossible to miss a shift. I think for corners though with up and down shifting something to keep in mind is that the Auto has the ability to hold the turbo on boost better and may be something to think about although the manual has a launch control feature. Again test drive both new at a dealer even if you are going to buy second hand. The auto also has a higher rated towing capacity as stated above. The manual is only rated at 1600kgs.

As for servicing, I enquired and was told the max major cost was $450 and I think I averaged it out to about $300 every 15000ks. Dont quote me though. My 2wd Ranger was up for $750 every 20000ks. I average around about 300-400ks a week and rarely need to put in more than $40-50 of 98 premium in the tank.

All up I couldn't be happier, no real boogies from delivery, and ive only heard of one horror story for the new FG range. Everything else is trivial and a quick fix sorts it out. You wont be sorry.

Rancid, how does the auto hold onto boost better through to corners? I would have thought that is the main area where the manual would have been better.

Most of the turbo's that I have seen for sale have both the premium sound and tech pack which is exactly what I'm after. You guys might think me a bit silly, but we aren't planning to purchase the car until next year, but I like to do my research and know exactly what I'm going after and what to expect.

I will definitely be going for a test drive. I just hope that they do have a manual as well!

Cheers

Mish

P.S. Thanks for all the welcome wishes! This is probably the warmest welcome I've ever received on a forum!

More the fact it'll hold boost on gear changes, the FG autos don't close the throttle at all when you're giving it plenty...it'll just cut the spark for a nanosecond.

Get yourself a G6ET...then you'll be pretty farkin cool :spoton:

What he said.

As for the tech pack, all the stock cars I was offered had it. I guess an easy way to get you part with alittle more money on top of the RRP. So im guessing alot of cars will have it. I did my own stereo upgrade and just added an amp with new speakers and a sub.

Hmmm...so it isn't too hard to change the stereo and stuff on the FG? I'm going for 2nd hand, so in that case you would advise to get one that had the tech pack rather then premium sound...and then I can do my own sound stuff later? I always wanted to have my own sound setup...but I just thought it would be too hard to remove all the stuff and put in your own setup.

As for Auto vs Manual....I guess I'll just have to force the dealers hand to let me test drive both! Take it for a spin through the cotter I reckon should do it!
