Hey I am new to this forum and have just bought a XR6 N/A 5 speed. there is a small problem that every now and again if you do not feel the gear go all the way in it pops back out. when I bought it the guy siad that in 2007 he had problems with the gearbox and took it back to ford and had 2 and 4th replace under warrenty. he said that now and again it pops out but it is just that the gear is tight to get into? is this ok and what do I need to do to fix it and stop it popping out??

Thanks in advance

:spit:

Start off by changing the trans fluid, then failing that you'll probably have to pull the box and gett it looked at by a professional - the T5 box isn't the strongest box in the world that's for sure...

I doubt the trans has ever been serviced by ford in that time.

give her an oil change, but I had that problem with my t5, and if you dont get it fixed it will end up destroying the syncro, if it isn't already knackered.

is it only tough to get into gear on the down shift or also on the up shift?

mine started off being a problem only on the down shift.

its a problem on both the shift up and down but not all the time. you can feel wether it has gone in to gear beacuse it feels like it goes a little further in, you can also feel when it dose not go in. could the gear just be tight beacuse it was replaced in 2007 or is there a problem? What was the problem with yours XR06T and what was the cost to get fixed?

sorry for the late reply, mine was fixed once under warranty, then I did a t56 conversion the next time it went.

try driving around without any of the gear surround for a week or 2 to see if that makes a difference, that was recommended to me when I asked the same question. if double clutching get rid of the problem its syncro's for sure, give that a go too.

Hey there ,I have had the same problem with my t5 mainly on the down shift into second. Took it back to the dealer (I had the car for about four weeks)they took three weeks to fix it, replaced second gear, shaft, bearings etc so they recon, cost them 4 grand so they recon. Got it back yesterday and it is the same if not worse. It happens doing about 30-40 kays at about 1000rpm (city driving), slow shifting, it pops out and grinds, sounds awful and makes you look like a real dik. A mate who is a mechanic recons it could be the detense springs and balls that hold the gear shift in place or something like that. Anyway its going back to the dealer and ill be left driving a focus for the next three weeks, not happy.

make sure they check that the gear selector pins are all in and tight mate, I was having the same problem and even lost reverse totally which I thaought was the death of the box, take it to a company in the sponsors section I took mine to horsepower factory, best move I ever made an the box feels better than ever :)

Thanks for the info red rocket I will tell these clowns at the dealership about the selector pins seeing they obviously don't have a clue. hopefully ill be back in the 'work hack' soon. going from a ba xr6t to an auto focus loan car nearly brings a tear to your eyes.
