Dear old Thomas how the f*&k have you been? Long time no see.

My mrs has a CX7 luxo and it is a good second car but it is also heavy on the juice. It has distinct flat spot if you floor it from a standstill but then moves along fairly briskly. Build quality sh*ts allover the falcon.

I've been playing with another toy over the past couple of years.....

as a direct result of the grin factor I experience from the turbo ute.

And I still bump into your best mate vik occasionally too.

Regarding the CX7 quality control.

It definitely is a cut above the local assembled cars.

Haven't had any issues in 4 years with the Mazda Luxury Sport 6, and the CX7 is equally well put together.

CX7 fuel consumption.... it is a bit of a worry at 14-15 l/100km .

I hear that there's a turbo diesel that's been released in Europe.... typically 6-7 l/100km

With similar power, but 400Nm torque from 1800 rpm.

It may come down under?

Sorry to say mate but Wayne has shut up shop due to personal reasons, so he no longer has the reflash gear from piasini engineering.

Wayne was a great bloke to chat to about all things ECU related when I had my MPS mazda.

He worked right near where I worked. I was going to get the wifes cx7 done by him, but then once I got the G6ET I couldnt be bothered as I hardly drive her car now.

Small compressor wheels give off a really distinct whistling sound as they spool up, I would say that is the difference in the turbo noise you are hearing.

After another drive in the CX7..........

Took it up the freeway and up to Mt Lofty and then back through the twisties down Greenhill Road.

It was raining lightly, and the biggest issue was the wipers.

They leave a 2" section down the whole length of the right pillar unwiped.

As I was coming down the hill, every right hand bend had me worried as I could NOT see oncoming traffic.

Bugger that.

Also the seats don't offer a lot of lateral support. I found my left knee was continuously hitting the hard edge of the central console.

And the elevated position made the CX7 feel like it was a lot wider than it actually is as you drive it.

I wasn't really overwhelmed by it.

It is afterall, a light truck.

"A "pretty" light truck though!" I told her.

This is meant to be my wife's car, but I guess she still values my opinions. :stupid2:

We went back to Mazda dealership and decided NO CX7.

So wifey took another look at the Mazda 6 Luxury sport... this time an auto.

This time she took more of an interest.

Took one for a drive, and as expected, it lacked any real urgency off the mark...

but it is very pleasant, quiet and refined, and moves along quite briskly once engine rpm is up.

And the auto also has paddle shifts on the steering wheel.... I felt like Mark Webber

For her, the decision was made when she checked to see if there was a vanity mirror in the sunvisor.

When she noted there was also a pair of lights on either side of the mirror, for makeup application, she was SOLD!

She made her decision.

Negotiations went ahead and we pick it up next week.

Black leather interior, with Sparkling Black duco.

Looks like a coarse metal flake candy black! Very nice, but will be a pain to keep clean.

Now to find some nice sparkling chrome wheels to really add a bit of bling!

I feel an F6 may be just what is required......

No kids at home, so don't need a sedan.

And the wife's new hatchback is now suitable for ferrying passengers if need be.

I like the serenity of NO BACK SEAT drivers!

And I do like the flexibility of the storage space with the hard cover.

Holidayed to Lakes Entance a few years back in the ute.

Had the treadlies in the back with all our other gear... We rode around a lot on the bikes.

No issues when we camped.... everything totally secure.

I've gotten attached to the ute format.

Never had an issue with the wifes CX7 wipers and I drove it down the GOR to Apollo Bay with a bit of rail along the way.

Did you test drive the 6 Turbo Diesel? Its meant to have the same performance as the previous model 6MPS.
